A Pill to "Cure" Curly Hair?

When you think of a pill, you think of something designed to heal an illness/sickness/ailment/disease..., right?.
Okay! so that's what upsets me the most about L’Oreal Paris’ announcement that researchers/scientist are developing a pill to straighten hair. Popping a pill, they claim, could turn curly hair straight by changing the hook-shaped hair bulb. The thought that people would be swallowing hormones to straighten their hair is appalling (in my opinion). In addition to the possible health implications of ingesting something powerful enough to change your hair, it sends a negative message to people with curly and kinky hair. I do not believe curly hair is something to be cured - it's not a disease! I am not against straightening curls, but I do not believe people should feel that they have to do so to be attractive. The Essence article (that I'll put up the link below,) states that this pill will "cure" kinky/curly hair. A "cure" implies that there is a problem, so apparently, these researchers think that kinky/curly is ugly or there's something wrong with someone for having hair like that. The narrow standards of beauty that is shoved down our throats every day sickens me, seriously. There is nothing wrong with kinky or curly hair. Instead of creating a pill to change hair texture, these scientists should work on a cure for REAL problems-like cancer and AIDS...
If you're a naturally kinky/curly haired person or you have friends who are kinky/curly haired would you like the idea of this? These people are telling us that we are not beautiful enough because we have a certain hair type. I don't want to type something really long, but this is what I have to say so I'll stop here. How do you feel about this?
We the undersigned are quite upset about your decision to take a part in the making of a pill that will "cure" curly hair. A "cure" to curly hair sounds really insulting. The use of the word 'cure', means that there's a problem, an illness, ailment or disease, but then, that means that millions of people were born with this problem, this problem that is just curly hair. There are different hair types: straight hair, wavy hair, curly hair, curly-kinky hair, kinky-curly hair and kinky hair, this idea to "cure" curly hair means that like all the other hair types apart from the straight hair are actually diseases.
There are many people who are proud of their naturally curly hair and this upsets them. On the other hand, there are people who don't know how to  manage their curly hair or they just can't be bothered so they relax their hair. Some people who don't want to chemically alter their hair texture choose to straighten out their hair so, I'm guessing that these people who think straight hair is more manageable are your target audience. However, a pill that can alter your genes or your hair type has to be so powerful meaning that it's side effects might be disastrous. Some people after taking this pill might want their curly hair back, but no matter how long they wait to transition, their curly hair is not going to grow back out unless they find some pill that'll make their hair curly again and then, will that person have their unique curl pattern?
The idea of this pill and the use of the word "cure" makes naturally curly girls think they're not beautiful enough because their hair's not straight. It makes them feel like they're some minor, unwanted sector and the straight haired people are the real deal. The media already makes people think that in order to look good and attractive, you need to have straight hair. Also, teens go to school, to the mall or anywhere and get comments like, "why don't you straighten your hair?" "why's your hair like that?" "you really need a relaxer." Girls ponder on and on, "do guys find curly haired girls attractive?" So, basically I see this "pill" telling them  that they need straight hair, their hair's the way it is because they have some "disease," the people who urge curly hairs people to relax their hair are urging them to do the "right" thing and that, no, guys don't find curly haired girls attractive. This is going to make many girls hate their hair or want to just stop this curly haired thing once and for all and not have to get their hair relaxed every six weeks.
Why are researchers and scientists looking into a pill that can  stop naturally curly hair from being curly instead of putting all their resources into coming up with a pill that can once and for all end cancer or AIDS. People are out their dying of those, no one's found a cure yet. We curly haired girls aren't dying of curly hair, so, why not save the ones that actually do need saving?
Like the lyrics to a Christina Aguilera song says, "we are beautiful in every single way." Curly hair is beautiful, a girl with curly hair is beautiful in every single way (including her hair type). Straight hair is beautiful, curly hair is beautiful too. If people with straight hair heard that there was a pill to "cure" straight hair, they'll be upset too. We were all made uniquely and we should love that and never want to change that because we were made like this for a reason.
