A Plastic-Free Holiday Season

If you're going to be shopping for the holidays the chances are pretty good that you will home with at least 20 plastic bags. Maybe 50? Do you think you could try to go the rest of the holiday (and not just holiday shopping, but grocery shopping etc) without using a single throwaway plastic bag?

I bet you can.  And here's why:

Americans use over 380 billion plastic bags per year, with 100 billion  thrown away and less than 1% recycled.

It takes over 1000 years for plastic bags to "decompose" and all those little bits end up in the soil, water and food chain.

Over 100,000 marine animals die every year from eating plastic bags.

So, bring your own bag to the mall and the grocery store, the crafts store and the drug store.  Keep your grocery bags clean and safe by running them through the wash.

Keep the planet safe and clean by just saying "I have my own bag, thanks."
