A SEAL'S STORY
I was born on the ice floes off the east coast of Canada, where the pristine snow-scape stretches out as far as the eye can see. For the first few days, my fluffy coat was as white as the surrounding snow...then after a couple of weeks, it began to turn silvery with black spots.
It was then that this peaceful landscape changed forever.
I heard a rumble off in the distance, and soon I could see a boat pushing through the ice. Then I heard the loud bangs of a rifle, and saw men jumping off the boat and onto the ice with sticks that had spikes on the end of them.
One of the men approached a defenseless seal pup nearby, clubbed him over the head again and again, and then skinned his lifeless body with a long and bloody knife.
Then he saw me.
I think you know how the story ends.
In truth, we can only imagine what the seals are thinking, but we DO know what they are feeling -- many of the seals killed in Canada's commercial seal hunt die in agonizing pain.
As soon as a seal pup begins to lose its white coat, in as little as 12 days, they can be hunted. Too young to fight back or escape, they are easy targets.
Every spring, around a quarter of a million of these gentle creatures are shot, beaten with a crude spiked weapon called a hakapik, and some are even skinned alive. All for the sake of a fur coat or hat. This cruelty is heartbreaking and senseless, and it's up to us to stop it.
The Seals can't tell their own story, so we must speak for them.
Please tell Prime Minister Harper to End the Seal Hunt forever!

writing you to express our condemnation of the commercial Seal Hunt. We also writing to notify you that we will boycotting canadian Seafood because the Seal Hunt went forward this Spring.
We will support the canadian Seafood Boycott for as long as it takes to end the commercial Seal Hunt and we will encourage our Friends and Family to do the same.
Recently polling clearly shows that close to 80% of Americans and Europeans oppose the Seal Hunt, with a substantial Number willing to boycott canadian Seafood to ensure that it ends.
End this cruel and unsustainable hunt for harp and hooded Seals permanently. Until you do, we will boycott canadian Seafood whenever we shop or eat out.

The atrocities that are committed against these sentient defenseless creatures is shameful to us as Canadians and to the watching world.People don't seem to realize this but multi-billion dollar corporations put Stephen Harper (and those before him) into the office of Prime Minister, therefore you have to realize that money talks. Corporations have a market for the seals, therefore they get them......
maybe we should do this to people to get the message thru??!! obviously too thick to see how much these poor creatures must of suffered!

The seal hunt is not the way to bring money into Canada. There is a far higher price that will paid here. Our government is making poor choices for our country, and we will all suffer.
This breaks the heart :( Why can't people let animals live in peace? Animals were here on this earth before humans and humans have no right to kill animals for their fur

I'm wasting my time. stehphen harper is for killing innocent baby seal. Clubbing them to dead or any other way, he could care less. I vote he get thrown out of office.
This should be stopped. This is the reason why all of the world's animals are becoming obsolete. It is disgusting. The way that science has evolved, you would think that they would make a new material that sick fur wearing pigs could wear instead of animal skins!
Time to stop this brutal massacre of marine mammals which is justified only by lies and which year after year brings nothing but shame on Canada.
The seal hunt is an abomination! It's a blood satin on Canda's flag. It doesn't make money, it costs money to maintain. The majority of Canadians are against it. You do work for us you know. Please stop supporting this. For once, please do the right thing.
May all those who participate in this cruel & inhumane massacre meet an equally agonizing end!
