We, the undersigned, are deeply concerned that the Board of Education of Chicago Public Schools has not adequately planned for the parking that will be necessary to make Jones College Prep a completed campus once its addition is finished. Besides the two small lots on the west side of the school, the plans call for only 35 additional spaces to be provided. We are asking the Board to reconsider this allocation so that additional parking for staff and for families and visitors attending fine arts, athletic, and other school events such as report card pick up can be accommodated, as they are able to be at other Chicago Public high schools.

This year will be our first year with Jones. My concern with JCP in the first place was parking for visitors, events, and students who carpool. The occasions we have visited as a family to JCP, parking was always the first issue and when I was at a meter, parking was a recurring issue throughout our visit. My son graduated from NCP and these kinds of issues never came up. Now is the time to plan for the future, Interest rates are low, We are building new additions to the school, hopefully a parking building similar to Loyola at Sheridan road & Devon could be considered

I am very excited to be joining the JCP community as high school principal, effective August 4, 2008. As a high school administrator with more than 30 years experience, I am keenly aware of the importance of adequate parking, especially for school events. Inadequate parking can and does negatively impact parent and community participation in the life of the school. With the addition of the new gymnasium and related spaces, JCP will be positioned to greatly increase direct parent involvement in our school program. I would hate to see a lack of parking impede such an important development.

Parking is a big attraction or draw back for the hiring of future teachers. There should be sufficient parking for teachers and parents. Also Whitney Young has parking if you want to compete with Chicago's other magnet schools you need to offer enough parking.

35 parking spaces is not nearly enough space for the Jones community. Whoever is in charge needs to consider the many families from all across the city that travel to Jones for their children and many shows, performance, events, etc. It is already a competition with fellow 'down-towners' with the meters, and its a hassle because they only last 2 hours. People would have to go way out of their way to park just to go inside of Jones if there aren't a large number of parking spots that are close. --Or they would have to come out of their pockets for expensive parking garages.

Just 35 parking spaces is extremely inadequate for a growing, outstanding high school such as Jones. Many other, less competitive schools don't have this problem probably due to location yet I feel more thought, commitment, and funds will foster a viable solution. Our schools need more attention on all fronts; not only on learning materials but on infrastructure, equipment, and future needs and demands.

Though alternate transportation will often be used by my family, I believe strongly that accommodating family and community support, which will be better facilitated with accessible parking, will benefit the school community.

Adequate parking at jones ensures effective school home connection. Adequate parking facilitates, promotes and assures access to children's school and enables close, effective communication with administration and staff.
Please make EVERY effort to provide effective access to our children's school/staff by making adequate and reasonable parking available as soon as possible. Consider the traffic and parking challenges associated with attending, visiting and working in a downtown H.S. . You can positvely impact home school connection in a school where the parking challenges are VERRRY demanding. Remove this impediment to creating-maintainig a strong and effective home school connection. Please!

Adequate lot parking will also relieve traffic congestion in the area by reducing the number of cars "circling the block" to find parking spaces.
Thank you.

The school needs this parking. Since I have worked there, there are more crowded conditions and over 700 students. This is not helpful to the school, faculty and especially to the parents. We want parent involvement and parents are very busy--where are they to park? You discourage their activity and input--Jones is not a neighborhood school. It has citywide enrollment.

Please provide more parking. It is very important for Jones parents, and faculty. Without adequate parking, the ability to participate in school related activities is always a greater challenge. Grandparents and others with limited mobility are discouraged to come and participate in events due to parking restraints. We want to be able to fully support our children and the school by being able to arrive and park near the school.
