Allow Autism Service Dogs in Schools

Give Autism Service Dogs the right to accompany autistic children to schools throughout the U.S. Currently, there is a debate in many states as to whether these specially trained dogs can escort a special needs child to school. These hardworking service dogs help autistic children with mobility and socialization. They keep their child companions calm and safe at home and outside the home. Please help support Autism Service Dogs so they can continue to provide autistic children with positive and safe life experiences wherever they may go.

Autism Service Dogs help in the following ways:

  • assist with an autistic child's safety and security at home, in public as well as at school. (example: helping prevent an autistic child from running into traffic or other dangerous situations.)
  • provide independence/freedom for the autistic child, allowing them to walk holding their dog rather than a parent's hand.
  • have a supportive and calming influence on an autistic child during high stress situations and changes in routine like those that would occur at school.
  • help improve socialization skills
  • act as a constant companion, offers unconditional love and friendship.

Please consider Autism Service Dogs as true service dogs and allow them to accompany autistic children to schools. They are no different than guide dogs or any other specially trained service dog helping a special needs child. Their role in the child's life, growth and safety is invaluable. Autism Service Dogs are not just pets that a child is trying to bring to school. These dogs are hardworking, well-trained, specially picked true service dogs.
