The online version of the Allow Iowa City Residents to Raise Urban Chickens petition has now come to a close. We want to sincerely thank you for your support of this issue. We gained support of 568 signatures online alone! So, where do we go from here?
While the online petition has officially been closed, Iowa City Friends of Urban Chickens will continue to collect paper signatures. We plan to be at the New Pioneer Co-op tomorrow (5/16) from 9:30 am- 1:30 pm collecting signatures and handing out informational brochures as well as fundraising at the Farmer%u2019s Market with a plant sale. There are two additional dates scheduled to petition outside the Co-op: 5/30 and 6/13. If you have friends or family that would still like to sign the petition, they can do so in person on one of these dates.
A community website has been created to keep you informed of our progress: www.iowacityurbanchickens.ning.com Please visit the site and feel free to contribute with blogs, forums and take advantage of a wealth of resources. You can also join the mailing list here to keep informed as we progress.
NEWS: We are excited to announce that we have joined forces with Iowa City Environmental Film Festival to host a film screening of Mad City Chickens (www.madcitychickens.com). This is an independent film that follows the urban chicken initiative in Madison, Wisconsin. We are asking for your support in funding this film screening which will take place at the Robert A Lee Recreation Center in the Social Hall on Saturday, June 27th at 2:00 pm. The filmmaker%u2019s will be conducting a Q&A session immediately following the film around 3:30 pm. You can donate securely online by visiting: www.iowacityurbanchickens.ning.com If each person who signed the petition gave only $1 we would have the public screening completely funded. Cluck cluck, please give a buck.
Again, thank you so much for supporting IC Friends of Urban Chickens and our efforts to see urban chickens legally return to the backyards of our community.
Many Thanks,
Iowa City Friends of Urban Chickens
