Allow Line Drying Laundry Everywhere!

Target:
All neighborhoods and cities who have rules against line drying laundry.
Sponsored by:

Line drying laundry is not only better for the environment, it is also better for your clothing; however, many homeowners associations are forbidding this eco-friendly practice, stating that it is an 'eyesore'.

This is a no-brainer! I can't believe that we need a petition about this...

How can a simple and harmless solution to reducing our nation's carbon footprint be thwarted for reasons of aesthetics? Haven't we left the "Leave it to Beaver" mentality of a squeaky image behind...aren't green lawns no longer considered a sign of wealth, happiness and beauty but rather seen as environmentally destructive and short-sighted landscaping choice?

it might be considered an eyesore and lower property values but drying laundry outside cuts down on the use of electricity. there can be amenable compromises -- only drying laundry on certain days, between certain hours, etc.

Laundry drying is not an "eyesore", there is nothing offensive about it. It is just that a long time ago, it used to be considered "lower class". It is a CLASS thing entirely, NOT an "aesthetic" thing at all. Now with the absolute imperative to SAVE ENERGY in all ways we can, SOLAR DRYING OF LAUNDRY {because that is what this IS!}, just MAKES PERFECT SENSE.

It was forbidden in our city too, but after all the normality won. :-)

I've been advocating this idea for years! The smell of fabric softener in the air from hot air dryers is so unpleasant and so unhealthy.

An eyesore? For me the sight of laundry drying in the afternoon breeze gives me the sense of home, of community. Laundry hanging on the line says a "family lives here & we have to do laundry just like everybody else." It just seems a natural thing to me to have a clothes line.
