We are asking that the recent telephone access given to general population inmates also be granted for death row inmates. The system set in place has voice recognition and can be safely controlled. Allowing death row the same phone access promotes good behavior. For every call placed, state taxpayers will be making money.

The new phone system features a number of security measures to allow officials to monitor calls. Only outgoing calls are to be allowed and those calls can be made only to friends and relatives approved in advance by prison officials.

However, TCDJ has excluded Death Row from these privileges. Please sign this petition to help us get phone access for those inmates also. These inmates are only allowed one five minute phone call every 90 days. The state can do better than that and the families of death row inmates are desperate to hear their voices. Let's all stand together for change.

The people on Death Row need to be able hear the voices for their loved ones. To know they are loved.My Son was on Death Row and one of the hardest things for the family to bear was not being able to hear his voice, and know he was ok. We only got to see him once a year due to distance and phone calls would have made it better for him and us. Just because they are on Death Row doesn't mean no one loves them. Mom of Death Row Inmate

These people have had everything taken from them already and they're just waiting to have their lives taken too. The family members of these inmates have also lost everything. They did not commit any crime and yet they are paying every day as if they had. The least the state of Texas could do is offer some comfort to their families and allow them to hear the voice of their loved one. Not to mention, the happier the inmates the easier the job is for prison guards.

I feel that death row inmates should get to use the phone as well as general poplution in the jails. The inmates should get the option to speak to there love ones.

Please look into letting the inmate from death row call their love one's, it is bad enough that we as family and friends cant hold them or hug them in visitations and we travel hundreds of miles to be able to see them or just to hear their voice, please take this plea into consideration. God bless them all.

I find this very shocking that the death row inmates would not be able to use the phone. I keep thinking why not?! All calls are monitored why should they be left out?? Is it because they are on deathrow?? Are they not considered "worthy"? It just amazes me how Texas runs their deathrow. In other states they can call out to their family and friends from an approved list BUT not Texas. Texas DOC has to be different. Even visiting is behind glass but I won't go into that now. Different means being cruel. I would think they would realize all the money they would make from them as they call out and the phone company kicks so much back to the dept of corrections!! What part of that don't they understand? Death row inmates have family and friends too and they deserve to talk to them and the people they are calling are willing to pay the high prices to speak to them. What is the problem? Why must we have a petition to try and make them see what they need to do!!!
