So many people are just hanging on to their businesses. In such an industry it should be commonplace for people to strictly run farms without secondary income, but without a textile industry this will not happen. The shows may determine, by judge, that your alpaca is worth loads of money, but ultimately if the textile industry does not exist we are doing little more than breeding show dogs with little or no purpose. Furthermore, this gives us a much needed market for the gelded fiber males that aren't being used for their potential. Fiber quality should be a 75% rate while judging a competition. The much treasured Accoyo bloodlines are based on the best breeding by survival of the fittest not the judges favorite... Please don't allow us to miss our calling by getting caught up in the Hollywood glamor and forgetting the North American farmer.

Please find unique ways to support this wonderful industry...the alpaca textiles should receive more recognition. I know this sound funny at first but have you ever considered contacting Tim Gunn from Project Runway? This would be amazing marketing and design publicity! We need to see that our tax dollars are spent supporting AMERICAN companies! Let's not allow another country to take this opportunity away from us.

It is time to concentrate on local (US) industry. I try to be a locavore, and support local business as much as I can. Locally grown alpaca fiber is all that I will buy. Please support this effort!

It's about time we took this into our own hands. AOBA is not supporting us, nor is our own fiber cooperative. Let's make this happen.

The North American Alpaca Breeders need support for their industry. The alpaca industry is growing and in order to compete we need to create a North American Textile Industry based in the US. This will support our breeders and provide many jobs. Please help this industry move forward and support our alpaca breeders. This is a green industry!

It is important that we create more jobs in the US to help our economic recovery. The increased production of USA Processed Alpaca Fibers and Yarns will increase demand. We raise these wonderful animals for their warm, soft, hypoalergenic fleece that needs to get known and used.

United States financial recovery depends on jobs. Bring industry home. I buy only USA made because I reinvest in ME and MY COUNTRY by doing so.

One goal I'd like to see sooner vs. later is the recongnition of alpaca farming by the USDA results in a viable commodity. Then the door would be open to their loan programs and new farms can be realized. It's up to us to prove we can make it a commodity.

As you know - Elkhart has been hard hit by the leisure market downturn. Fuel oil and other heating products are pricey (except wood right now) and people should be wearing more natural fibers for warmth that does not depend on petroleum as its base. Further, it is a tragedy that we import so much wool from Australia and New Zealand and can only get pennies per pound for our wool and other animal fibers.

Hi, This is a great opportunity for the US to become successful in another agriculture commodity. Plus, I can't imagine ever NOT having the need for warm clothing. The alpaca industry should almost be a neccesity.

We need to create a quality commercial fiber industry in the United States and this is one of the first steps towards that goal.

I support this effort because I don't want to see the alpaca industry go the way of the mohair industry or the emu/ostrich industry. I believe developing and improving agricultural markets should be one of the Department of Agriculture's main functions.

Bring Back the textile industry to the United States. We lost so much of it over the last 1/2 century and now it is time to bring it back along with the jobs.

As fiber producers we need to have a place that is located in the United States of America to process large quantities of alpaca fiber in to fabric, and other products. It is being done in Canada, we can do it here.

American Alpacas produce the highest quality fiber in the world, an the creation of a thriving commercial fiber industry should be our goal from here on out. It is imperative that we as breeders of our outstanding animals move forward with our efforts to build the North American Alpaca Fiber industry!

We need to create and keep skilled jobs in North America. The creation of a textile industry in North America will provide much needed manufacturing jobs in the United States and Canada. They will also provide an outlet for alpaca fiber which is one of the softest and warmest fibers throughout the world.
