This is my sister, Kaytie.

Amend Michigan Penal Code 750.354 Negligent Homicide

Target:
Mandatory prison time for persons convicted of Negligent Homicide
Hello everyone!  My name is Meagan Fournier and I started this petition because of a tragedy that happened in my life one year ago.  My sister, Kaytie was killed by reckless and allegedly drunk driver (he was).  Unfortunately, due to the corruption of the legal system by power and money, he was convicted of Negligent Homicide, a high misdemeanor.  The punishment for taking my sister's life according to Michigan Penal Code 750.324, is as follows: Any person who, by the operation of any vehicle upon any highway or upon any other property, public or private, at an immoderate rate of speed or in a careless, reckless or negligent manner, but not wilfully or wantonly, shall cause the death of another, shall be guilty of a misdemeanor, punishable by imprisonment in the state prison not more than 2 years or by a fine of not more than $2,000.00, or by both such fine and imprisonment.  That means, that because of how much money that this guy has and who he knows, my sister is worth less than most of the big screen TV's at best buy.  There is no excuse for not having mandatory jail time for taking a human life.  Death is forever, jail is not.  My family and I will go on for the rest of my life without my sister Kaytie, while he walks free to do whatever he pleases, not being held responsible for his actions. My purpose of this petition is to gain support from people in my fellow age group and beyond to amend the Michigan Penal Code to delegate mandatory prison time for persons convicted of the crime of negligent homicide.  There is soooo much more to this story but for legal purposes I cannot go into detail...all I can say is that he had 4 felony charges and got off on a misdemeanor. My sister's death will not hinder his life, but will hinder ours for the rest of our lives.  My oldest sister is having her first baby, which Kaytie will never be able to hold, and be an aunt to.  She will never get married or have a life of her own.  He will.  My sister is 6 feet under in a coffin and not even the "Justice" system cares. Well, I'm not going to sit around for the rest of my life and not do anything...my goal of this entire amendment process is to ensure that when this happens again, that another family will not have to go through the unspeakable pain that my family and I have endured.  I ask for your support in my endeavor to have my sister's life vindicated and not have her life have ended in vain. My efforts to amend this law will be included along with a letter to every person in power in the state of Michigan, including several Congressman, Senators, State Representitives, and the Governor.  Please.  Support me by signing my petition.  Thank you in advance for taking the time to read this...every signiture counts.

It is hard to believe that our government "of the people" is so negligent in their responsibilities to the people. Never again should we vote for those who do not take their elected positions seriously. Then maybe the government will be "for the people and by the people"

God wants us to show mercy towards one another. But He also wants us to take responsibility for our actions and to accept the penalty as a form of penance for our sins. Please amend this penal code so that those who violate it are punished according to the crime. Jail time should be mandatory for homicide.

My best friends' mother was recently killed tragically similar. She was the best.Everyone loved her who met her. Hopefully all people who commit this crime will go to prison for a very long time. It should be a murder charge.

I think it's terrible that our justice system allows people to get away with such heinous crimes.

While I didn't know Kaytie personally, her grandmother, Sylvia, is like family to me. To watch what their family has gone through in the past year, and what they'll still have in the future breaks my heart. It sickens me to think this MONSTER will probably recieve a slap on the wrist and the rest of his life to do as he pleases, but Kaytie will NEVER have that pleasure.
