I'm a smoker and there are so many people employed by cigarette companies and various farms where they produce ingredients for cigarettes. The economy is already messed up and this law would increase the number of people un-employed drastically. Do we really want to put that many people out of jobs? America is the land of the free, getting less and less with every bill approved like this.

The tobacco tax has enabled our legislators to profit while deflecting public attention from the far greater cause of breathing-related disease -- traffic fumes. Under 20% of US adults smoke, and restrictions are such that most of us have no exposure to tobacco smoke whatsoever. Yet breathing-related diseases continue to increase. The most carcinogenic smoke is the kind that contains oil particles, from traffic, not tobacco.

In the 50s the goverment (surgeon general) decided cigarettes were the cause on most illnesses. The reality was that the government could not control the use of hazardous chemicals. Since that time the government has protected the chemical makers who sell us the most hazardous chemicals for home use. Check the labels on the cleaning agents under your sink. Furthermore, these chemicals and more deadly toxins and pathogens are going through sewage treatment plants into drinking water. They are also being disposed of on your food crops by the same cities who want tp ban smoking. Deadly chemicals are being used in building materials. Air exchange in buildings were reduced in the 80s to save energy. Deadly vapors build up in buildings, but the only one you can smell is cigarette smoke.

The only people we are killing are ourselves. I'm not planning on living forever. I plan on having a good time at it and choose to smoke doing it. Smoking and driving doesn't kill, but drinking and driving kills plenty of others and booze isn't taxed like ciggarettes are.

Just cause our President is having trouble quitting doesn't mean that "in my opinion" he has the right to ban cigarettes, alcohol, etc. Yes there is talk about another alcohol ban. Yeesh, I don't like dictators. As it is, the only people that can afford to smoke now are rich people
