I'd love to see an aux registry for app patterned horses. I have a mare with a lovely blanket and all characteristics of draft horse parentage.

I am a member of ApSHA and IPSHR. Have talked with the ApHC and they have told me that my mare is 'not welcomed' in their registry. We'd so enjoy riding the Nez Perce Trails.

This is long over due and can only help the faltering image of the ApHC.

No longer a member because of the discrriminatory policy of only allowing "approved" crosses.

yes, I know many people with appaloosa cross sport horses that love the cross. In addition, as the appaloosa originates from the aboriginal breeding of mustangs I feel that it is a disservice to the history and origins of the breed for appaloosa patterned mustangs to be completely abandoned by the breed registry.

i think it would be great, i have a stallion that has all appaloosa characteristics but can not be registered with the aphc cuz he contains draft blood. Its hard to register him even though he has more color than some horses goin to the world shows. Plus the aphc said id have to hardship register him and geld him but if i had done that i wouldnt have the beautiful little filly that i have now, who also has appaloosa markings.

I do think that this could work as a branch of the ApHC. I am a HUGE fan of the hardship registry. Some people know that I bought my horse at a horse meat auction, hardship registered him and went on to win a National Championship with him in 2005 in Open Nez Perce Stakes. I believe at the time I hardship registered him there was an incentive going on--say $25 to register. I think that the club should pursue a lower cost "window" for this registration again. It would register more horses. I also think that they should allow non spayed mares into this registry with a stamp on their papers prohibiting breeding. It is too dangerous and expensive to spay a mare to have them registered.

yes, since the early 90's

I think that the ApHC should look at many angles to increase membership. There are horse owners out there that acquire a horse that has no papers & would be willing to go thru the processes to have the horse "recognized". This also places more value on the horse, because from that point forward, it is registered and so can the offspring. Hey, all horses had to start somewhere. See my additional message below about being progressive in today's world..... Sue

Yes, I'm a member of the ApHC. I have also expressed concern that the registration papers for my 3 apps have the breeders name as the "owner" on the front of their papers. While me-the owner- am on the back. I wouldn't mind if the breeder was named the "breeder" on the front, but, come on---for the breeder to always be recognized as the "owner" on the good side of the registration papers is just wrong. I don't care if other breed registries do this, why not be progressive & do what will get you members rather than dig your heels in & die rather than change. Just my opinion.

I think a registry would greatly benefit the ApHC. However, I think the horses registered should be able to show in ApHC shows in their own classes.

No, not currently, but I would consider if there was a registry like this.

yes i think so because there are alot of really nice horses out there that should have been registard...but some people just don't care to take the time or want to invest the funds

not yet....i own a appy stallion that goes to prince plaudit,he's a black & white leapord and he is registerd with the ApHC,but i'm having a hard time getting his papers from his owner, they were suppose to been with the trainer when i picked him up...if it was'nt the fact i traveled from overton to minnisota i would told him i wanted my money back...so i would benifit with a registry like this....

I would LOVE to see a half-appaloosa registry. It's terribly popular for the Arab world, it makes since it would be just as beneficial for the Appy world. I wouldn't mind seeing the Appy books close and see a Half-Appy alternative for out-crosses. More horse could get registered and that is always a good thing. The fewer "grades" produced, the more will see homes, have a future in the show-ring, etc. Plus, I could breed to a warmblood and have a registry for it as a half-appy. That would be great!

I've been a member since 2006 when I bought my first Appy.

Yes I would be in favor of this. According to geneticists (Gus Cothran, Donald Jones) because of the excessive outcrossing to Quarter Horses and Thoroughbreds, the Appaloosa scientifically would be considered only as a color breed. The Foundation Appaloosa would be considered a blood breed. I think a half breed registry would be great! And much needed.

Yes I have been an ApHC member since the 1960's.

I think it is a great idea, given that the horse being registered has all color characteristics. I personally own one such as this,(mottle skin, white sclera, and stripped hooves)she has all of them, but can't register her due to former owner not knowing her parentage.

My horse is not registered but, my two year old daughter is about to be a member when I mail the paperwork in.

YES! I have a foundation curly horse that has Appaloosa characteristics WAY back in his bloodlines, so it definetly would.

We need to include all colored appaloosas under the umbrella of the ApHC or subcommittee of the ApHC. Yes, I am a proud ApHC member who believes we ALL have a place within the ApHC!!

Yes, because there are so many crossouts that are not approved by the ApHC. Is it fair to approve certain breeds because that is what the board wants to be the identity of the appaloosa?? If QH, Thoroughbred, and Arab have that privilege, why should all crossouts.

yes, since 1981, and I really perfer a 1/2 breed registry with one app parent, and closing the books for the full app registry much like the arabians.

I have an obviouse appy mare with all appy characterizes. This mare wins in all appy halter classes at 4-H county fairs, and state fairs. She also wins in the appy halter class at open shows. I cannot track down her parents and refuse to spay her as she is an outstanding animal. This is a wonderful opportunity for her. I have been asked why I don’t show her in the ApHA breed shows and when they find out she is unregistered people are amazed.

I am in favor of the new part bred Appaloosa registry. I believe this will be a great benefit to international members and those here in the states breeding gaited appaloosa colored horses and sport horses. I believe the money generated will support the entire ApHC.

People seeing horses marked with appaloosa coloring are going to automatically assume they are registered appaloosas anyway so they may as well be recoginized by an auxillary association. I have followed the breeding rules and ended up with registered appaloosas who don't have a spot one, yet are registered with ApHC.

I think it's a good idea. I have problems here in Mt & elsewhere getting mare owners to register good, registerable foals. I would like to see these foals & the nice colored foals by my stallions registered.

Well, it will make more money for "somebody". And why not? I have a couple of Un-registered Appaloosa mares, taht are very obviously Appaloosa, but they can not be registered with ApHC. However, I can go to any show, or look at any Appaloosa magazine, or go to many breeders, and find ApHC registered "Appaloosa's" that have hardly ANY Appaloosa blood in them, and many do not even LOOK like Appaloosa's. Yet, they are accepted and ENCOURAGED by the ApHC.

Yes, I am a lifetime ApHC member. But I do NOT AGREE with much of what they do. There should be NO DRUGS allowed in show horses!! There should be NO OUT-CROSSING allowed in breeding. It should only be Appaloosa to Appaloosa, or not registered. (Or, put in the "new registry" that you are trying to get started.)
