Ask Michael Moore to Document the Injustice System

Ask Michael Moore to Document the Injustice System

Target:
Michael Moore

We know the Criminal Justice system is unjust. We know thousands of innocent people are in prison. We know there are unspeakable abuses that happen behind the walls of courtrooms and jails. We realize that some people are profiting off of the amount of bodies they hold, not necessarily the services they provide. We are jointly asking MR Michael Moore to hear our pleas to document these injustices and make them public.

We the undersigned have witnessed injustice in our system that directly affects our loved ones. We used to believe that one was innocent until proven guilty that is, until we found ourselves victimized by the reality of the our situations.

We realize now that corporations are profiting from those repeated and constant abuses within the criminal justice system and certain individuals are gaining status from our loved ones suffering. We are asking you to use your talents in raising public awareness on the most serious and growing issue of wrongful convictions. Please film this injustice and make it public.

The fact is that we give County prosecutors way too much power One reform is obvious: prosecutors shouldn't be allowed to keep any scrap of information secret. Everything should be turned over to the defense, in every case. http://www.theirc.org/campaign/urge-president-obama-take-action-childrens-rights It is time to end wrongful convictions http://www.law.northwestern.edu/wrongfulconvictions/aboutus/

Michael: You can stand up and be the backbone for all the convicted and their families. This story needs to be told. Each case is different, each story is different, but the convictions and restrictions are all similiar. Please fight to right the injustice with the justice systems.

Document it from start to finish. How you can only answer questions asked in court and not explain the whole story. How prisoners can become productive citizen if rehibilitated instead of just housed. How it affects not only the prisoner but families and friends. How corrupt the questioning is during interogation.

justice is not foremost, money is. Whether a public defender that is more interested in cutting deals and not making waves than defending. The prison system, unbelievable. Privatize the system to be a money maker!! Why do we have more people incarcerated than any other country? No good time credit, only wastes incentives for behavior, nor overcrowding.

I have a friend of 20 years serving a sentece out of KERN County a county with overzealous, satins helpers, just waiting for the next mexican to make a mistake, he is serving Life for an assault, with insufficiet evidence, its a crooked little county and I pray for the citizens that they stay far away from there. Micheal Moore would do wonders with that county and revealing the inhumanity the prisoners face, not to mention how if you dont have money you never get a fair trial. GOd Bless

Mr. Moore, I am the mother of a son who is now in prison. I will be forever haunted by the nightmare of our experience with the broken and corrupted system we call justice. We live in MI where the prison industry replaced the auto industry, being a Michigander you've seen it happen. Until my son and I experienced this nightmare, I'm ashamed to say I would not have believed anyone had they told me of the total lack of justice in our "justice" system. How blind I was. My eyes have been opened and I am sickened by what I've seen. I've seen several of your documentarys, and from what I've seen you are a man who holds truth and justice in high regard. Please open the eyes of this America, "the land of the free" to the truth behind the lies. Thank you, and God Bless Linda Carroll Feel free to contact me@ itzadream@gmail.com

Dear Mr. Moore, I am writing to you regarding a topic that is close to my family; namely Truth and Justice. I am aware of your many works. I was born and raised in Michigan and attend Davison High School (your alma mater). I have many family members that have worked for and have been affected by the current situation with General Motors. Today I am writing about another family concern, that of a family member being wrongly accused. I have had a family member, my uncle, convicted of five counts of Child Molestation. He was accused of touching minors over their clothing in a public area and was given the maximum penalty on all five counts. He is only in his thirties, never convicted of any other crime, worked in the community and sentenced to 75 years in prison with no chance of parole. Obviously, this has devastated my grandmother and the rest of the family. Although I do not know much about the law and the criminal justice system, I do have a grandmother torn by the decisions made by the Arizona court system. I know that when we say "wholly innocent" that it means that a person who had absolutely no part in the crime charged. In reading the transcripts from my uncle's trial, there are many discrepancies in the testimony given. I know that there has been many cases where there has been false allegations of child abuse. For me, I know that my uncle is a good man. I have never witnessed anything that was inappropriate. Our instincts are to protect and defend defenseless children. I know that my family feels the same way. However, I know it is easy to presume guilt in issues such as those faced by my uncle. In these cases involving child abuse, a person is usually looked upon as being guilty and has to prove their innocence. It is hard to do when the accuser is a child. Yet there have been many documented cases where an innocent person has been found guilty of such cases. My concern is that my uncle will be in prison until he dies. I know that he is not a BAD person. I know that if he had been convicted of such a crime in Michigan, he would have gotten a much lighter sentence, even probation. My grandmother in Michigan is a Probation Officer who has told me this. I am not saying that any type of child abuse is right. I feel as most parents would, that there is no excuse for such an act against a child. But in this case the facts do not match up to the conviction. Children usually say what they are told to and things were said in the transcript that could have gone either way. I am asking that you might want to take on the plight of the wrongfully convicted. I understand that my uncle was convicted in a court of law and judged by his peers, but people that murder people in the State of Michigan are allowed out of prison within seven years. Even if my uncle was guilty (and he's not) of what he is accused of, he does not deserve to die in prison. Unfortunately, my uncle is only one of the countless others who are languishing in jails and prisons. As someone who has been profoundly affected by this injustice, I am begging you to bring to light the many injustices of our judicial system. If you have any questions or are in need of further information, please contact me. Thank you for listening to me but more importantly thank you in advance for helping countless, voiceless people in prison by giving them a sense of hope. Sincerely,

My fiance was convicted as a child sex offender at age 20. He is now 34. The following is an account of his side of the story, what I've heard from his family and also found in newspaper archives regarding the event: Paul (my fiance) was living with a friend at the time in an apartment complex. He was involved at the time with the mother of his son, who was the same age as he. There was a 13 year old girl that lived in the same complex who pursued him on a regular basis. At that time, he was unaware of her age. She was most often seen hanging out with two other girls, aged 16, and looked to be the same age. One night at a party, the 13 year old girl was there and she and Paul had consentual sex. It did not occur to him that she would be younger; and he was not aware of her actual age until he was arrested a few weeks later. I am not condoning this act or his ignorance but I do not think it warrants having to publicly register as a CHILD SEX OFFENDER. Especially when I and many other girls lied about our age when we were younger in foolish hopes of snaring a boyfriend; I do not think this act makes him a pedophile or a bad person, just a young horny kid. The 13 year old girl even wrote a letter to the court on his behalf stating that she pursued him and that the act was indeed consentual. At first, he was sentenced to probation but then later to prison as he violated the terms of his probation by smoking marijuana; he was then sentenced to prison for four years. He was actually convicted PRIOR to the Amber Alert/Sex Offender Registry Laws. This common and stupid mistake has basically ruined his life, and greatly effects mine. Because he is a felon, employment is difficult to obtain; we live in constant danger because our address is published on sex offender websites; I would like to have a more public career but am afraid people will discount me because the man I love has this terrible label. Paul has had a stream of trouble with the law throughout the last 15 years and I believe it is because of the label he has on his name, he has low self esteem and is stuck in the system that is more interested in making money than rehabilitating. Currently, he may be facing prison again because he missed a registry deadline. All we want, is the chance to right his wrongs and not live under this dark cloud anymore. He has not had any other sexual conviction (his other offences are a DUI, which he has finished all court orders on; a domestic violence w/ an ex who was punching him in the face repeatedly, calling him a pedophile and knocked out his front tooth, he admittedly hit her back and completed all the court orders on that as well; and owes quite a bit in child support, impossible to catch up on when no one wants to hire a child sex offender. Because he missed the registry deadline (last year when we moved to another county two hours from the previous), he had to go to court and also participate in an intensive psychological interview regarding sexuality and much more. During the interview, the interviewer kept asking him to pretend to be in some really perverted situations and give an answer based on that. I think that is really bizarre. Why would you pretend to be in a situation you don't want to be in? It seemed to me like she was trying to get him to say something other than what he was. We now have the final report from this interview with nearly twenty pages of innaccurate and derogatory information, not to mention it states that the records for the crime committed back then was not available. How can that be? And why would that not be referenced each and every time this subject comes up in the courts? It states repeatedly that he is angry, has low self-esteem and shows no remorse for the victim. Of course he doesnt have remorse for her! It was consentual, she pursued him and he was still basically a kid himself! He did not hurt her or force her. He doesn't hold a grudge against her as he now knows she was way too young to really understand what she was doing and it was her parents decision to press charges. How could he not have low self-esteem? Why shouldn't he be angry (though he tries not to be)? He has been labeled from the very start of his 'adult' life and constantly torn down by the system. This 'report' even states that he demonstrates normal sexual patterns, yet they recommend prison?! And recommends the most intensive sex offender therapy available? I know this is about making money for the county and not about rehabilitation. Why is it young men who make a stupid mistake one time; or a college kid who decides to get a little crazy and go streaking; or someone has to pee in public; (all of which are not admirable things to do) have to register as sex offenders? Why don't we then have Murderer Registries and Theif Registries? I have witnessed on a few occasions when judges in the courtroom already judged him guilty before he could even reach the podiam. He is not a pervert, he doesn't view pornography and has demonstrated normal sexual behavior in our relationship. I am intelligent, observant and a good judge of character. I have known Paul for three years and trust him implicitly with my teen-aged daughter.

I am a close friend of Maria Riveras, signature 760, and I agree with all the things she said. She has a loved one in the penal system and it has been a long hard road for both of them. I hope someday that the road will shorten for them.

I would like for Mr. Moore to show how the prisons are holding Lifers in there for no reason. Especially the ones that got Life with Parole, but every time they go to the board they get denied for stupid reasons. They have been locked up for years, and these are the inmates that will not return to prison once they are paroled. They don't let them out because they get money for them. Its all politics!

I am signing this petition because I have witnessed a flaw in our system. What is wrong is a 13 year old girl posing as a 17-18 year old girl got pregnant 2ce before she was 16 and has put 3 men in prison. yet she's aloud to walk the streets. She is now over the age of 18 and is with the 3rd person she has put in prison. And visits him at prison which is in the same prison as the second person she has put there. As of which the state has put a restraining order on him to stay away from her. Yet she's there at the prison he is in.where is the justice system in that.
