Ask President Elect Obama to attend the UN Climate Talks

Ask President Elect Obama to attend the UN Climate Talks

Target:
President Elect Barack Obama, 2008
Sponsored by:
We are asking President Elect Obama if he will attend The United Nations Climate Change Conference in Poland, 1-12 December 2008.

At this conference there will be a review of the Kyoto Protocol and bring to light the best available scientific information on climate change and its impacts.  The attendees will agree on a plan of action for the final year of negotiations and participate in comprehensive and extensive discussions on crucial issues relating to future commitments of our nation.

The Kyoto Protocol is the first international agreement to fight global warming and was signed by 141 nations (including all European and all other developed industrial nations) except the US and Australia. President Bush said he would sign it and then backed out at the last minute.  This treaty expires in 2012.  We need to have representation by our next President to show that we are committed to being a part of the solution.

We the undersigned, are asking you to attend The United Nations Climate Change Conference in Pozna, 1-12 December 2008.   As you already know, President Bush did not fulfill his campaign promise of 2000 to sign the Kyoto Protocol that committed all nations to stopping the disastrous human-caused effects of a warming global climate.  This treaty will soon expire.  It is of the most importance that we are represented by you at this upcoming summit to show the world that we are committed to being a leader in the fight against Global Warming.

We thank you, in advance for living up to your campaign promise to put the earth's climate at the forefront of your presidency.

Thank you so much for your help!

As of yesterday, President Elect Obama announced that he will not be going to the United Nations Climate Change summit in Poland this December. He stated that there is only one President of the United States and that he will be eagerly awaiting his turn this January 20, 2009. However, the United States will have representation at this summit and he will work closely with them.

He also announced his commitment to everyone at the summit when he does take office. You will see in this video that he goes on to talk about the Cap and Trade that he will put in place when he takes office. He also offers a partnership to work with anyone who would like to participate in conquering Global Warming.

Once again, THANK YOU for all of your support.

Small farming is very much connected with this issue. Small farmers can produce meore on less acres resulting in a smaller carbon track on the environment.

President Elect Obama has become the first black president of the United States! We need to keep our support with him and make sure that he goes and signs the Kyoto aggrement and with a majority democratic Senate, the treaty will pass. The US will not only be the home of the Red, White and Blue, but the home of the Red, White, GREEN, and Blue.

If we don't address climate change heroically, there will be no universal health care, no social security, no viable economy, no national security. Show the world that the U.S. is now taking the lead in THE fundamental issue of our time.

Mr. President. The center of our universe of problems is climate change. If we can get a handle on that, we have a much better chance of adequately addressing the rest.

We realize that there are many pressing issues clamoring for your attention, but few are as large in impact as the environmental crisis. At the very least, your attendance would send the message that the United States intends to join the rest of the world in the struggle to preserve the planet's habitability for future generations.

Yes we can! Please Mr President Elect, treat this with the attention that it deserves. There will be few better ways to signal that the US has changed direction.

While we have many critical issues to address, it is my view that the environmental catastrophe that is occurring right at this very moment trumps them all. It is the very survival of life on this planet that is at stake. I would be heartened and delighted to see an Obama administration showing immediate and bold action on this important issue, including President-Elect Obama's personal attendance at the Climate Change conference in Poland.

A committment to end the waste of energy by the US military manipulating control of limited energy resources would be a phenomenal step toward taking responsibility for climate change.

Dear President Elect Obama, This is one of the many issues that prompted me to not only vote for you, but to be a part of your grassroots organization as a volunteer for your election in Georgia. Although we didn't get Georgia to turn blue on November 4th, there are many of us that have high hopes for you in the future and one of my hopes is that we can work to solve climate change through out the world. Therefore I would ask you to attend this conference if at all possible.
