Ask President Elect Obama to attend the UN Climate Talks

We are asking President Elect Obama if he will attend The United Nations Climate Change Conference in Poland, 1-12 December 2008.

At this conference there will be a review of the Kyoto Protocol and bring to light the best available scientific information on climate change and its impacts.  The attendees will agree on a plan of action for the final year of negotiations and participate in comprehensive and extensive discussions on crucial issues relating to future commitments of our nation.

The Kyoto Protocol is the first international agreement to fight global warming and was signed by 141 nations (including all European and all other developed industrial nations) except the US and Australia. President Bush said he would sign it and then backed out at the last minute.  This treaty expires in 2012.  We need to have representation by our next President to show that we are committed to being a part of the solution.
We the undersigned, are asking you to attend The United Nations Climate Change Conference in Pozna, 1-12 December 2008.   As you already know, President Bush did not fulfill his campaign promise of 2000 to sign the Kyoto Protocol that committed all nations to stopping the disastrous human-caused effects of a warming global climate.  This treaty will soon expire.  It is of the most importance that we are represented by you at this upcoming summit to show the world that we are committed to being a leader in the fight against Global Warming.

We thank you, in advance for living up to your campaign promise to put the earth's climate at the forefront of your presidency.
