LOVE . CARE . AWARENESS

The Australian Cavy Sanctuary is a non funded and non profit combined effort by dedicated individuals, shelter managers and volunteers who are truly passionate about the welfare of small animals, in particular guinea pigs.

Our Objectives -

1: To educate the community on the correct care and humane treatment of guinea pigs.

2: A commitment to raising awareness and working to change the stereotypical low valued view guinea pigs have endured.

3: To supply aid and sanctuary to ill, injured, neglected, pregnant and found guinea pigs.

4: To re-home guinea pigs appropriately through adoption procedures maintained by the operation of shelters managed by ACS volunteers and staff.

5: To take whatever steps are necessary within the law to improve the quality of life, value and respect of all guinea pigs and to be the voice for those that are trapped in situations of abuse and mistreatment.

6: To support and actively endorse all aspects of animal welfare.

___________________________________________________________

We are dedicated to the ongoing challenge of taking a stand for the quality of life, value and respect of all small animals and to be the voice for those that are unfortunately trapped in helpless situations of abuse and mistreatment. In modern society today small animals are still very undervalued and can still be viewed as " the cheap backyard disposable pet " by many, including petshops, pet owners and the law and it's time to take a bigger stand to try to change this. It is unfortunate that only very few people are willing to take this stand as guinea pigs have had a very public and particular low valued " view " for years. We are dedicated to the ongoing challenge to change this.

BY SIGNING THIS PETITION YOU CAN HELP TO TAKE A STAND FOR THE QUALITY OF LIFE, VALUE AND TREATMENT OF ALL SMALL ANIMALS AND IN PARTICULAR IMPROVEMENT IN THE FOLLOWING AREAS -

The Law - Small animals currently do not even make a mark in mistreatment cases they usually won't even be presented in a court case as it will be dismissed or laughed at as an unworthy case. Many australians believe that harshers penalties need to be introduced regarding animal mistreatment in general but when it comes to small animals ANY sort of seriousness in a mistreatment case would be a greater improvement than what currently stands.

Petshops - The  treatment, sale price, selling process, suppliers and  general care of small animals in petshops is a current area that still needs much greater improvement. ACS often find guinea pigs in petshops being sold pregnant, unwell and being denied medical treatment, being kept in mixed sexes, being kept and fed inappropriately, being supplied by backyard breeders and being sold by staff that have minimal to no knowledge on small animal care. ACS DO NOT support the selling of any animals in petshops and we do not support the current status of the issues described as above.

Pet ownership - ACS have dealt with a high number of cases of mistreatment and mass breeding cases although we believe that since our organisation began and through our website and awareness displays, that it has impacted and helped to educate many small animal owners with regards to better/proper care of small animals and to value them as a member of their family and not a cheap backyard pet. We will continue to persue our cause and hope that in the future the trend of better care increases with pet ownership in general.

FOR FURTHER INFORMATION ON THE ABOVE ISSUES PLEASE VISIT OUR WEBSITE http://www.australiancavysanctuary.com/

IF WE REACH OUR TARGET WE WILL BE SENDING OUR SIGNED PETITION TO THE AUSTRALIAN GOVERNMENT IN THE HOPE THAT IT WILL BRING ABOUT BETTER LAWS AND AWARENESS FOR SMALL ANIMALS OF AUSTRALIA.

When given a chance to shine a guinea pig will warm the heart and the soul for life...

Small animals are beautiful, affectionate and intelligent creatures, just as special as other larger animals like cats and dogs.

Shopping cruelty free with shampoo, soaps and cosmetics saves pigs lives - and is good for you too with less chemicals. I have a beautiful family of four pigs and a dwarf bunny. They are gentle loving souls that give nothing but happiness everyday.

Guinea Pigs deserve the same treatment as other animals, and maltreatment should be prosecuted!

Small animals have feelings just like any other animal and like any human. To hear of awful stories of abuse is terrible. And any person mis-treating an animal of any size should be punished. Small animals don't deserve to be mistreated just like any other animal doesn't deserve to be abused.

We need to stop treating little animals as "disposable pets". No pet is insignificant, no matter the size.

A guinea pig is just as important as a dog or a cat; just because they are a smaller creature and may not come to you like a dog does not mean it should not be treated equally. They feel pain just like other animals as we do as humans and we need to look after all creatures, great and small.

I get really sadden and upset at the amount of guinies for sale in pet shop for just a few dollars. People are not educated in thier diet and think rabbit food will do and when they get bored they release them into the wild of dump them back at the Pet Shop as unsalable adults (they are no longer small and cute) or the RSPCA. These are wonderful little animals who deserve so much more respect, love and attention!

All animals deserve equal treatment. They all feel pain and more needs to be done to protect the smaller breeds from cruelty and neglect.

Guinea Pigs are beautiful creatures and have brought much joy and comfort to my life. They deserve to be treated humanely at the least, but better to treat them as a member of the family. Education is the best way to ensure correct care, love and responsibility in the treatment of guinea pigs and other small animals. Every animal deserves awareness, resources to re-home, foster care, funds for health care, laws against cruelty that are enforceable and appropriate punishment for neglect & abuse, above all every animal should be valued in our society.

Guinea pigs are beautiful animals, but many are neglected because people do not know how to give them proper care. Because of their size people view them merely as cheaper/smaller alternatives to a cat or dog and we must work to change this view. Let's spread the word and give them the respect and care they deserve. In loving memory of 'Tootsie', 'Yutsy' and 'Billy Bob'.

Guinea-pigs are cute adorable creatures who deserve better than this. I've seen many cases of guinea-pigs dieing in cruel and agonising ways. I've even seen wild guinea-pigs that have been set free by thier owners. Afraid alone and lonely; they're suffered enough.

Guinea pigs are animals with a soul and heart. We as humans need to look after them correctly. Lots of education is needed.

All animals derserve to have a fair go in life, guinea pigs may be small but this does not meen that they deserve a less a quality life than any other animal from horses to dogs. We are the ones that can make a differnce.
