BACKPACKS: FRIEND OR FOE

In the Summer of 2007, it was decided by the Quakertown School Board members that backpacks should heretofore be banned from school grounds.  The purpose of this new rule is unknown and possibly non-existant, as there is nothing a backpack can conceal that that pockets, purses, binders and the like cannot.  The rule is unecessary and and a burden on students who have since been carrying pounds and pounds of schooling materials conveniently on their backs.  Backpacks are not the threat to students, students are the threat to students, and banning said packs would do little to nothing towards the safety of those who attend the schools.
