Ban Carbon Monoxide Gas Chambers in Randolph County North Carolina

Many North Carolina counties, including Randolph County use gas chambers to put down shelter animals. It is inhumane and our tax dollars are paying for it! Not to mention the high cost of the machines and the potential health risk to shelter workers. EBI (Euthanasia by injection) is more humane and cost effective. American Humane recently commissioned a study comparing the cost. Proving EBI is less costly to communities. Cost of carbon monoxide poisoning (Gas Chamber) is $4.98 per animal. The cost of EBI is $2.29 per animal. Gas chambers are an inhumane way for an animal to die and it's not necessary. To date EBI is used on animals under 16 weeks of age at the Randolph County Animal Shelter. It could be used on all of the shelter animals if they "have" to be put down. Randolph County Animal Shelter has two of these gas chambers.
Here is an eye witness account of a gas chamber killing: Food is withheld 24 hours prior to reduce vomiting and bowel loss. Choked by a catch pole they go to the chamber, small and large together. The gas turns on and they start to choke. It burns their eyes and lungs. They throw up and lose their bowels. Fighting each other and fighting to stay alive. You can't ignore the screams from inside. They gag and gasp for air, they howl begging for help and scream as if their nails were being ripped out. It's the worst sound in the world and it can last 40 minutes. Shelter animals are filled with total fear until they die.
Really! They are thrown away only to die like this! Please sign this petition and let's stop this in Randolph County!
