38 horses have been killed as a result of this race since 1997.

Ban the Grand National

Target:
Rt Hon Hilary Benn MP
Sponsored by:
The Grand National is a particularly hazardous event that has killed 38 horses since 1997, 11 in the race itself. The race lasts 3 days and the course is designed to 'present a white-knuckle entertainment for a public which has learnt to associate the National course in particular with the 'thrilling spectacle' of horses crashing to the ground.' Please help stop this poor excuse for a sport.

We the undersigned believe that no matter how much welfare standards for the Grand National improve it is still morallly wrong for it to be held. We therefore call for a complete ban of this race.

It is disgusting that this is allowed to exist. We may have the ability to harm and torture animals- but by no means do we have a right.

Although I think the grand national is a very tough test for horses, 11 deaths, on course, over 10 years is a surprisingly little amount. If you look at international eventing, ALOT more horses will die on course over the same time span. Also, your letter is little thought out, and will not make that much impact. They will not read it and think, ok, they have called for a ban, so be it, in all honesty, I think they will laugh. Don't ask for a ban, ask for higher welfare standards, it will improve the standard of the race, and racing as a whole and you are more likly to get a result, rather than asking for something as big as banning the grand National. I hope you take this in to consideration, I'm not being rude, I'm just trying to help.

It is disgusting that if the horses under perform etc or injure themselves which may be minor but could impare the racing life they will get killed. They are not in loving homes. horses are built to run but there is a point where it becomes more of a demand than a natural behaviour from the horses

I agree with banning any type of Horse racing, animals should not be used for Human entertainment or financial gain, they should be free just like us so called human animals...Humans are so arogant to think that animals love this, yes horses like running but in a free enviroment just like humans, this is something humans say just to make themselves feel better about the abuse and they don't whip the horses, what a croc, would u like to be whipped to go faster and not get ANYTHING out of it, ALL for human gain

If they end up treating them the way they do and killing them after they are not good enough for them, they shouldn't be allowed to have them in the first place! Animals have feelings as well!
