Ban the Piercing Gun in Indiana

Target:
Indiana Health Department
Sponsored by:
The piercing gun, and any other similar squeeze or trigger method of ear and body piercing, is unsafe and traumatic to the body. On top of that, these piercings are being performed by unlicensed store associates - sometimes teenagers - with no proper training. It is our desire to spread the word about how unsafe this method is, and especially to prevent parents from putting their children at risk.

<a href="http://tattoo.about.com/cs/psafety/a/piercing_guns.htm">Why the Piercing Gun Should be Banned</a>

Most people get piercings done this way out of ignorance, and assuming that it must be safe if it's widely practiced. The only way we can protect people from their own ignorance is to see that this procedure is banned.

This particular petition is for the state of Indiana - please sign if you are an Indiana resident! If you're not an Indiana resident, please start a petition for your own state and feel free to copy any of the above information.

We the undersigned wish for the Indiana Health Department to review the issue of piercing gun safety and the qualifications needed to perform ear or body piercings of any kind. We feel that this practice is dangerous and traumatic, and many times done on children without their knowledge or consent. We respectfully request that the Indiana Health Department ban this procedure and limit body piercings only to professional studios by professional piercers with proper training in sterilization, blood borne pathogens and general first aid.

I feel that the piercing gun is less sterile and more damaging than a plain needle. It can cause blunt force trauma to the tissue and most of the people operating a piercing gun are uneducated and do not follow adequate cleaning methods. They are unsafe and allowing them in stores across our state condones the use of them and tells ignorant consumers that the law-makers of our state believe them safe.

No one needs to mutilate their bodies, with all due respect. Too many people have been damaged from these piercing guns as they're not regulated and anyone seems to be able to use them. I don't have even one piercing on my body and never will thank God! / * This is a picture of New York City Police Commissioner Raymond Kelly, I Victoria Mary Stong and N.Y.C. They are usually in the hands of under-trained individuals who are unlicensed and un-regulated. Unless they have an autoclave or chemi-clave onsight and perform weekly or monthly spore tests, along with yearly universal percautions training they are in violation of indiana state law.

After my daughter had a terrible piercing gun experience, I started learning about how dangerous they really are. I wish I had known beforehand, so now I want to help others to not make the same mistake I did!
