The general public must surely be outraged at this time of austerity and unemployment with ordinary families struggling to make ends meet that bankers who already receive excellent salaries that total hundreds of thousands of pounds annually should also be entitled to bonuses totalling millions. In accepting these rich payouts they show contempt for taxpayers, and it makes a mockery of PM Cameron's assertion that we are all in this together. Since the British Government through the taxpayer now has the majority of the shareholdings in the banks that had to be bailed out it has the power to curtail these bonuses. My suggestion is that in the case of RBS, in which we own 83% of the Bank, the directors should only receive 17% of their bonuses and the rest go into the public purse. That principle should apply to all the other banks in question. James Tait.
