I have long been an advocate for the World Society for the Protection of Animals (WSPA), Greenpeace and the Sea Shepherd Conservation Society. My father, who is a Professor in Ecology at The University of Sydney, brought me up to have an awareness of, and respect for, the environment. As the human population continues to grow, more and more animals are in danger of losing their habitat and joining those that have already become extinct. While large scale issues, such as land clearing, logging and global warming are of major concern to me, I am also anxious for the welfare of individual animals, such as the Asian sun bears, monkeys, elephants, sea turtles, sharks and whales. While the outlook may be bleak for many of the world’s animals, there are a few hard-working, kind and rather eccentric individuals who are dedicated to doing what they can to help the animals and the planet.
Thanks to WSPA, many Asian sun bears have been rescued from the brutal ‘entertainment sport’ that is bear baiting. There are many ways to help these beautiful bears: by signing petitions, volunteering, donating and visiting the WSPA gift shop for Christmas and birthday presents. Please sign this petition, it is the least we can do for these long-suffering bears.

This cruelty should stop for once and for all and this is again a bloody shame of mankind. Quote: "We must fight against the spirit of unconscious cruelty with which we treat the animals. Animals suffer as much as we do. True humanity does not allow us to impose such sufferings on them. It is our duty to make the whole world recognize it. Until we extend our circle of compassion to all living beings, humanity will not find peace." -- Albert Schweitzer, physician/Nobel Laureate -- |
