Because of who I am: Help end corrective rape on lesbians in S. Africa

According to Action Aid, Cape town support groups report about 10 corrective rape cases a week. Of these cases there has been approximately 31 homophobic related murders on lesbians, and only one conviction since 1998.
"Corrective rape" has turned into one of the most horrific forms of hate crime known today. It has claimed the lives and dignity of many innocent women and children, as a way to cure them of their sexual orientation.
Whats even worse is that the perpatraors are allowed to walk free, and victims cries fall on deaf ears. Even though Africa aknowdeges the rights of the LGBT community, they do NOT consider the crimes afflicted on gays and lesbians because of sexual orientation a hate crime.
Not acknowdeging what is being done to them, is a crime within itself.
We must make a stand against this act of sexual violence in order to make the african legal system recognize that this not only a hate crime, but a rape crime as well.
Here are a few accounts to make this more realist for you.
Nonhlanhla Zwane reported that her 13 year old twin daughters were gang
raped because her sexual preference. She also stated that the rapist told
her daughters " we just wanted to show you that you dont have to be like
your mother" one of the twins committed suicide shortly thereafter.
Another account was on Sizakele Sigasa who was a lesbian activist and
outreach worker with the Positive Women's Network who was found dead with
her friend. Her hands were tied behind her back with her pants and her
ankles tied together by her shoelaces with three bullets to the head and to the collerbone.
Simangele Nhlapho along with her two year old daughter were raped and
murdered, her daughters legs were broken as well.
Madoe Mafubedu who was 16 at the time was raped and stabbed repeatedly until
she died.
No woman regardless of sexual orientation should fall victim to this
grotesque and inhumane acts of hate.
We URGE you to be a face in the race against hate....

I have become aware of the inhumane acts of hate being afflicted on lesbians in S. Africa. Its such a tragedy that such behavior is tolerated within a independant county. Reguardless of ones viewpoint on their sexual preference the rape of a lesbian is a rape against a citizen of S. Africa. Everyone deserve the right to feel secure within their own community.
This practice where men are raping women to cure them of their sexual orientation is completely grotesque and must come to a end. Homosexuality is not a sickness, and the misconception that you can be cured by rape is fare beyond acceptable.Its a violation of their constitutional rights as a human, and of their lives.
It is also a shame that since 1998 there has been 31 murders accounted and of those there has only been one conviction. Corrective rape must be considered a hate crime, and the perpatrators should be punished to the maximum extent of the law.
We do appreciate that South Africa recognizes the rights of gay and lesbian people, however what does that matter of you cannot live in peace.
