Better health regulation of resturant chains worldwide.

Target:
World Health Organization and The U.S. Center for Disease Control.
Sponsored by:

This petition concerns seeks to appeal to theWorld Health Organization to work with governments worldwide to better regulate the fast food and chain resturant industry worldwide.

Resturant chains worldwide are potentially prime sources for the transmission of communicable diseases.

Often resturant chains and convenience stores hire low wage and immigrant workers without proper health training to handle food and beverages and many of these workers are not tested for diseases such as Hepatitis, TB and other communicable diseases which may potentially be spread in the workplace or to customers who consume chain resturant food and beverages.

Many of these workers come from countries with extremely high rates of Hepatitis and Tuberculosis and present an extremely high risk of contamination of food when serving and preparing food for potentially hundreds or thousands of customers per day.

Approximately 2 billion people in the world have Hepatitis and 15 million in the U.S......often resturant workers cut meat and other foods with sharp knives and cut themselves and bleed into food....I know this because I have worked as a cook in resturants when I was younger and often cut myself when no one was around or looking and sometimes I bled into or on the food.

I also worked when extremely sick because I could not afford to take time off and had no healthcare to go to the doctor.

I did not receive any food handling health training or tested for any diseases I might contaminate the food with.....very few if any of the many resturants I worked for over the years gave me food handling health training or testing me for communicable diseases.

Now I understand the health implications of this and wonder how much regulation and monitoring of resturant workers and food workers health is going on in the U.S. and worldwide, this seems like a likely way for hepatitis to be spread through fecal contamination by workers who don't wash their hands and bleeding into food when prepping it.

Tattooed workers also, most likely, carry a higher risk of being infected from dirty tattoo needles especially if they are tattooed immigrants from countries with higher rates of hepatitis and other diseases such as T.B. etc. and with poor regulation of tattoo parlors.

I try not to eat out much now after reading about how easily hepatitis can be spread into food etc.

I would like to know what the World Health Organization and the Center for Disease Control in the U.S. is doing to prevent the further spread of hepatitis and other communicable diseases through resturants, fast food chains etc.

It seems like health training and regular testing of all resturant workers for communicable diseases, especially hepatitis which can also be spread sexually after infection from blood/feces in food etc. would be a good idea before more of those 2 billion worldwide hepatitis infections can further devastate worldwide healthcare systems.

I've also noticed that many of the hair styling salon chains in the U.S. and most likely their overseas franchises use extremely sharp black styling combs that seem common throughout the industry, these combs have extremely sharp teeth that scratch the scalp and draw blood and are reused on the next customer...I recently got a cut at one of these salons and asked the stylist to not comb so hard because it felt as if the comb she was using was scratching my scalp and drawing blood.....who is regulating these salons?....should I get tested for hepatitis after this experience?

We the undersigned agree with the sentiments of this author and wish for the Center for Disease Control in the U.S. and the World Health Organization to better regulate and conduct health testing for workers in these industries.
