It has come to our attention that there are plans in the making for the sale of Kentucky Derby winner Big Brown. The details are not clear yet but will be forthcoming in the next few days. However, we as Friends of Equines are concerned over the future of this horse based on the worlds past history of sending off xrace horses to slaughter when they are no longer useful or profitable to their owners. We are making this petition in hopes that all parties involved in the sale, the owner and any potential buyer or buyers will all agree, for the sake of the welfare and future safetly of the horse, to the implementaion of stipulation into their sales contract that BIG BROWN will never be sold to slauughter. If we are to pay
more than lip service to caring about our horses, we must take more pro-active measures that would back up such claims. We the undersigned ask you to cosider our pleas for life-long protection for this horse. Write in a "NO SLAUGHTER" provision into any sales contact. Do it not only for BIG BROWN but for all the horses you sell or transfer ownership of , even if transfering to a rescue or sanctuary. It is always a good thing to do, like insurance only dosnt costs nothing to do. We ask that you "put your money where you mouth is" when you talk about loving and caring for your horses by making sure that there is a NO SLAUGHTER clause in all your transfer of ownership contracts. We think this would be a step in the right direction for the industry which has suffered alot of blackeyes in the public domain lately. Requiring such a clause
as a matter of routine on all your contracts would no doubt give the racing industry a much needed shot in the arm as far as good PR is concerned. Show the world you really do care and just DO IT! The horse-loving horse-racing communiities of the world will thank you for the wonderful example you have set.
