Elephants are herd animals that require company in order to be fully healthy and happy.
Even if Lucy is in good health, she would be psychologically suffering in the Edmonton Zoo. She needs to be with her own kind.
She is being tortured in that she is isolated and alone. Female elephants have terrible psychological problems when they are held in captivity alone.
Lucy became the zoo's lone elephant in September 2007, when Samantha the elephant was shipped away to another zoo for breeding purposes.
We applaud Mr. Bob Barker for trying to set Lucy free and to bring her to a sanctuary in California.
We thank everyone who will pledge to boycott the Edmonton Zoo.

As professionals...you should do what is best for Lucy, not for the money...would you like to be separated from your family...herd animals are supposed to live in a herd ...let her enjoy a " family" ...She has her right to be with her piers...how can you, who pretend to love and care for the animals do not do what is right, just, and best for HER. I was at the Zoo this past fall and it's the saddest excuse for a park let alone a zoo! It is illegal for Lucy to be kept by herself. Elephants are to be kept at least in pairs. It has now been more than two years since Samantha, the female African elephant who lived with Lucy at the Valley Zoo, was shipped to the North Carolina Zoo. Samantha enjoys far more space than she ever had in Edmonton, natural grass covered ground, long sightlines and the company of other elephants, while Lucy remains in social isolation in a small, barren exhibit in Edmonton. Free Lucy!!
This is cruel. Lucy is alone, and deprived of her 'family'. Please give her the family and companionship she deserves. She may be well-cared for, but does NEED the love of her own species.
It is cruel to keep Lucy alone and in such a sterile environment. Please send her to a sanctuary where she can be happy and live with other elephants.

Science has shown repeatedly and convincingly that other animals have minds and emotions so like our own that their joy and suffering is essentially indistinguishable from our own joy and suffering. Why is it so impossible for the human animal to evolve?
I think Lucy should leave and it may be possible that Lucy has breathing problems trunk is getting swollen because of stress ever since her friend Samantha has been sent away it may be because she is lonely and she is having reactions HELP LUCY NOW DO NOT EVER BACK DOWN UNTIL LUCY HAS HER RIGHT

Lucy suffers great psychological trauma by not being able to have at least one "sister" to communicate with. Try putting one man in with a herd of elephants for two years with no other human contact and see what happens!
