Boycott Mattel

Target:
Mattel, Inc.
Despite three recent high profile product recalls due to safety hazards posed by their products, Mattel's CEO Robert Eckert stated that he does not feel his company needs to comply with Consumer Product Safety Commission regulations which call for an immediate reporting of dangers to the Commission.

Mattel has a history of foot-dragging and conducting product recalls on its "own timetable" -- in some cases gathering consumer complaints for years before taking action -- rather than the one mandated by our government.

Consumers need to let Mattel know that it is not above the law and cannot get away with setting its own rules when it comes to product safety.

Let CEO Robert Eckert know that you will not purchase Mattel products until he publicly renounces his obstructionist position and promises to fully comply with CPSC regulations.

Dear Mr. Eckert,

We the undersigned object to your view that it is your prerogative to report safety hazards on your own timetable.  The CPSC reporting regulations are not optional.  Placing yourself and your company above the law because you find it unreasonable is simply unacceptable.

We understand the manufacturing process will never be perfect and there will always be occasions when product defects are discovered by consumers, and that is all the more reason why companies such as yours must comply with Consumer Product Safety Commission rules, including reporting potential hazards immediately.

The safety of our children is paramount.  Consumers must be informed as quickly as possible if there are harmful products in the hands of children.  Until you publicly renounce your obstructionist position and promise to fully comply with all CPSC regulations going forward, we will not purchase any Mattel brand products.

Thank you for your time.

I am absolutely appauled that Mattel would knowingly harm our children. This is unforgivable. I refuse to buy and Mattel brand products, and will not accept any as gifts for my one year old son. They hopefully will lose a lot of money, since money is all they care about.

i have grown up using and buying mattel toys for myself and my children. after recent events i will no longer support what i can only interpret as corporate evasion tactics. to know there is lead in a product and say "because there are no federal standards covering lead in plastic, so we don't need to do anything" is heinous! where is your concience? i have bought my last mattel product.

I am forwarding this notification to everyone I know who has children and those who want to have children. It is ridiculous that the USA continues to allow other countries to send their "JUNK" here. And our "GREAT AMERICAN BIGSHOTS" think they are too "GREAT" to comply with regulations established to protect Americans.

I do not care if Mattel resolves the issue at this point, their brand is banned for life in my household. They had their chance to correct the problem and have failed to care for children and more about profits!

I look at all my son's cars and read 'Made in China, Malaysia, Thailand' on the bottom. I wonder who this relationship is good for (the exchange of these trifle artfifacts). Mattel, Hotwheels, Matchbox, McDonalds Corp... And his newest ones have more paint chipped off than some 30years old. Obviously that the quality is depleting speaks volumes of this venture. So our gold goes there for these mindless trinkets to come here. What kind of a life is it for the exploited Asian workers toils over these trinkets? This is not a healthy nor responsible relationship.

I have bought Mattel products but I will not buy them any more and I will start telling other people what is going on. As consumers we have the right to be safe with the products we buy and I don't think we are. That right is being violated. Mattel has to fully comply with CPSC regulations.

I am appalled at the numerous recalls of toys this year alone! How can companies and our country care so little about the welfare of our children? I refuse to buy MATTEL until things change. This Christmas is all about books, and computers. Sorry toys, you are out!

As a grandmother of four I am appalled at the laxity of attention to the manufacturing process of children's toys made abroad. Mattel is a name I trusted as a mother and would like to continue to trust as a grandmother, but I will be boycotting your products until I am assured that quality control is what it used to be.

I served 8 years in the US Navy. I thought Mattel was an "American" company. Thanks to recent information I now see that your corporation simply has become a division of the People's Republic of China who appears to be in the process of trying to poison our children. I swear to you that this Christmas my family will be shopping for toys that are made in the USA and apparently that does not include products made by your corporation. Thanks for the memories. Here's to hoping that none of my family's youth will ever have memories of playing with your products.

WHAT THE HELL IS WRONG WITH YOU PEOPLE AT MATTEL?? HEY MR ECKERT, MAKE SURE YOUR CHILDREN, GRAND CHILDREN, COUSINS, ECT HAVE PLENTY OF YOUR LEAD TAINTED PRODUCTS. I AM SURE YOU COULD CARE AS LITTLE FOR THEM AS YOU DO FOR THE MILLIONS OF CHILDREN OF NORTH AMERICA.

I WENT TO SEVERAL STORES INCLUDING WAL-MART, DOLLAR GENERAL, TARGET, AND MANY MORE TO FIND A TOY FOR MY DAUGHTER'S BIRTHDAY AND AFTER 3 DAYS OF SEARCHING COULD ONLY FIND ONE THAT WAS NOT MADE IN CHINA! I THINK ALL THE STORES THAT CARRY THESE ITEMS SHOULD BE BOYCOT!

I have 3 children & I am not buying ANY Mattel products right now until they get their act together & start taking the safety & health of children seriously. This means NO Barbies, NO Dora, NO Hot wheels, etc. I think it is ludicrous that Mattel is making more of an effort to appologize to the Chinese than to parents & their children.

We need to boycott Mattel toy products to show our disappointment in their actions over the past few years. Making profit a higher priority than the consumer safety satisfaction should clearly be punished by justice of the law system. They should all go to jail, and pay every American consumer who bought their products money for causing such an unnecessary safety issue. Come back to America for manufacturing toys. At least in America, you have morals to know that you don't put EXCESS LEAD IN CHILDREN'S TOYS. Wait. Mattel sold their integrity and conscience for money. They should become bankrupt for this crime against the millions of children and parents in America and around the world.
