Brewster County Votes

Target:
Judge Steve Ables
Sponsored by:

Whereas the Brewster County Democratic Party was advised on March 13th, 2008, to not include hundreds of validly cast votes in its final election canvass, including certain early voting returns, and certain electronic voting returns from election day on March 4th;

Whereas not including these validly cast votes changed the outcome of the race for 83rd District Attorney, and could affect the outcome of national election results;

Whereas the election process as conducted by Brewster County officials has been flawed, secretive, and disrespectful to Brewster County voters, taxpayers, candidates, and party officials, especially when countless thousands of brave Americans are actively risking their lives overseas in the name of Democracy; and

Whereas to ensure that all validly cast votes in Brewster County will be counted, a lawsuit has been filed in Brewster County to restrain the Brewster County Democratic Party from certifying the results of a flawed election process, and Administrative Judge Steve Ables has granted a temporary restraining order to prevent the certification of incomplete results;

I hereby sign this petition in support of the above-mentioned legal action. I also request that a full and thorough investigation of the March 4th, 2008 Brewster County election process be conducted by the Texas Attorney General, including the behavior of all Brewster County officials involved in that process. I want all valid votes cast in Brewster County in the March 4th primary to be counted as elections from the regional to the presidential level may be affected.

Count ALL the votes. Or, let's have another election for this one particular office. I'm willing to assume incompetence in this comedy of errors, as opposed to chicanery.

There exist great apathy and discontent among our young voters. In recent years they have witnessed too many instances where they believe that their vote doesn't count or worse. How can we impress on them the significance and civic duty on their part if we do not stop and address this vital issue and right of the American citizen? Mistakes happen, and now is the time that we stand up and let our voices be heard so that we can correct them and do the right thing. The right thing is what all Americans need to be thinking about. The right thing was popular long before we became "politically correct." Think about it.

Those of us that made the effort to get out and vote early deserve to have our votes counted. I is WRONG to deny us the right to have our voice heard. Pamela Priddy

If there's nothing to hide, why block this appeal? It seems to me that if the powers that be want us to believe they are doing what's right, they would want to demonstrate that by revealing their methods. However, there are several organizations that are applying the "Animal Farm" philosophy: "All Pigs are Created Equal, Except Some Pigs are More Equal than Others."

Our election system has failed us. Within The last five years of my voting life, the elections have been misunderstood, forgotten, contraversial, Incorrect, and under utilized. I am thankful to be engaged in the REAL election process of learning about caucuses NOW. It is a shame twenty years have passed with "The Texas Two Step" and it is a law(right) that has gone unnoticed, but has defined elections, proposals and the translation of local needs when the Local does not now how to participate in the true voting process. It is not just this election, THE ENTIRE VOTING SYSTEM NEEDS IMMEDIATE ATTENTION. I WANT TO SEE ALL ELECTED OFFICIALS ADDRESS THIS ISSUE NOW.

This seems to be the way politics is supposed to operate in our nation these days. Look at the last two presidential elections. I was precinct 8 republican voting and they tried to keep us from having our convention!

People are of the belief that we live in a democracy , and that for our votes to count that they have to be counted . Not eliminated by capricious whims of those with conflicted interests. Sincerely ,Matthew Oller .

This election year is one of the most critical elections in the history of the United States. The outcome of this election will have a major impact on how the country overcomes the past administration's mishandling of military, economic, international, and domestic affairs. Whether we can bring the US back into reputable standing in the global arena depends upon every single vote cast by American citizens. We demand that the designated officials handling the electorial process act responsibly and insure that each American's vote is accurately counted.

What good is it to have a constitutional amendment guaranteeing my right to vote if it's not going to be counted?

The rock upon which our republic is founded has taken a beating by our election officials. The right to vote is as important as free speech and the right to worship as we choose. This travesity needs correcting and SOON!

Might as well be in Iraq. Their political system works about as good as ours, but they were able to count votes.

I fear that Alpine doesn't take its elections seriously. The first time I voted in Alpine at the Civic Center about 5 years ago, in a general election, the ballot box was not locked and an election official would open it and grab a handful of votes to take into another room. It upset me then, and this upsets me now.

As a citizen of the United States of America, I am really sick and tired of sham democracy. How do I tell my students to vote when as something as a simple county election is obviously taintd with corruption. The whole stinking process makes me ill.

I believe that all votes should be counted! The citizens of this county did absolutely nothing wrong! They exercised their right to vote. It is unfair to them to disallow their vote for the irresponsibility of the individuals involved. Okay, maybe 1 box being overlooked would be human error, but 3 ballot boxes and not counting the electronic boxes (which by the way should already be totaled when the tape is printed) is absurd! Seems to me that someone else needs to be in charge of elections...someone who is responsible, competent, and can follow the process of checks and balances.

The omission of valid votes is simply wrong! I'm a resident of Precinct 4 & I'm insulted and disgusted with the chain of events resulting from this election. Who is responsible? How & when will integrity be restored into our local democratic system?

I don't know what will become of the election totals from the early voting, and election-day voting. I don't know enough about this, that or other to come to a conclusion as to why this cycle is so off-course. I know what happened in Precinct 4 for I was the Demcratic judge and shared the responsibility of getting the vote out with Roland Baylor who was the Republican judge. Each year you work like mad to give everyone, who wants to vote, the opportunity to vote. There's much to do during this 12 hour period and you can not know the questions that come up in an election-day if you have not worked on an election-day. So try not to be judgemental of the mistakes that can and do happen. None of these mistakes are meant to cause anyone to lose their vote. It is dumb to think any election worker wants a fail election-day. The rumor is that the machine vote in Pct4 was not counted because the judge didn't sign the tape. Well, folks the talk around the bridge table coming from a person in the know is that Roland signed the tape and I signed the tape. If a tape turns up without our names than that tape is a mystery and then the questions should be where did the tape come from and who found it. Joyce Wright Alpine

This is a continuation of a string of campaign, election, and officeholder irregularities in Brewster Co TX: City of Alpine ballots for City Council elections not being safeguarded; undereporting of City Election expenses by some Candidates, for large 4 x 8' signs and other yard signs; interference in Alpine City Council processes by County Officials; and now massive Brewster Co election irregularities.

The number of votes not properly counted in this election is an embarrassment to the voters in Brewster County. We will have a hard time convincing people that they need to vote in the future after messing this election up so horribly.
