I was shocked that Mark Steiner was terminated abruptly (apparently) from the Steiner Show on WYPR. I will no longer be a member of WYPR unless he is brought back. My guess is that he was too liberal re international affairs. This should be PUBLIC RADIO, not Republican, conservative radio.

The notion that Mr. Brandon puts forth ,that public radio does not belong to the public is appalling and highly offensive. I feel that this is a tactic to undermine and destroy public radio in Baltimore.

I miss Marc Steiner's show very much. The gentleman who has replaced him during the middle of the day isn't nearly as accomplished an interviewer. Marc had fascinating guests and his commentary and questions were insightful, intelligent, and entertaining. I'm profoundly disappointed in WYPR, stunned actually that they would do this to Baltimore. Please bring Marc back.

I am sorely disappointed that WYPR cancelled Mr. Marc Steiner's show--it was by far the station's greatest assest. Please reconsider this foolhardy decision.

Marc Steiner was the best thing about WYPR, a really unique voice in media. I learned so much from his shows, not just about Baltimore, but about the diverse people and important issues in America and the world. I was stunned when he was taken off the air. I had begun to contribute generously after I moved to Baltimore three years ago. However, I will never support the station again until they bring back Marc Steiner. How can it be public radio when the president and board control the decision-making, not the public. They took the public out of public radio on WYPR when they fired Marc Steiner.

Still very upset. I'm cynical about this making a difference, especially in the face of this board, but I want them to know that 3 months later I and many others are still upset and NOT listening to the noontime show. Nothing personal against Mr. Rodricks.

I have been an public radio listener for over 30 years. Marc Steiner is one of the best program hosts I have ever heard. I can't believe WYPR fired him. The Wire and a Peabody!!!! Does the management of WYPR have a clue?

What a poor way to solve differences. If Public Radio is to stay open and objective on all subjects then should it not be with its radio personalities also

Marc Steiner is the reason I began to care about Baltimore after I moved here. His show taught me a great deal about the region and mixed local politics and culture with important national discussions. I will not listen to the show that has replaced him, and I avoid listening to WYPR when practicable. Please bring Mr. Steiner back, and start listening to your public (WYPR is public radio, right?).

What is Baltimore public radio with out a Baltimore personality. Marc Steiner understood this city and brought out its charm and put its woes into a clear and objective discussion. He was intelligent fair and balanced, and was the biggest reason for listening to the radio for me. I watched him moderate the mayoral debates and believe you will be hard pressed to find another capable of handling that bedlam effectively. I am sorely disappointed in WYPR's decision. I now find myself forced to look for other sources for my information, and other, better run, programs to give my donations.

Marc is a long time friend, before he began wypr.I thoroughly believe he brings subjects to the publics attention that would otherwise remain unheard. He is an invaluable asset to baltimore,to maryland,to humanity itself.I urge you as an ardent fan and supporter of wypr(no pledge this year as a form of protest)to bring Marc back to the city he loves and feels the same about him. Thank-you.

Bring him back! The best thing YPR had going for it, hands down. And get some diversity on the governing board!

I always thought WYPR was our public radio station. With the firing of Mr. Steiner, it seems more like a corporate station trying to make ratings. What next, top 40 format?

Put the Public back into Public Radio in Baltimore! Don't think is wasn't noticed that during the delayed Spring membership drive, all the matching funds were put up by the board. What a statement that made.

As a public school teacher, I have been most fortunate to have had planning time during the Marc Steiner show. I always found it a great source of motivation for me to continue plugging away at the difficulties in my job. Something about that "vision thing" I guess. Now that those airwaves are silent, some of the glue that binds us together for a greater common experience is missing. Please bring the show back. Thank You, Jim Burns

Since Mark Steiner was fired, there is no reliable, regular source of local Baltimore information. I heard a part of you recent fund raiser. It was made bearable in the past by Mark's enthusiasm for his city and his public radio station. He was on air practically 24/7 for WYPR. Without Mark, WYPR offers nothing that can't be found on every other public radio station in the Baltimore listening area.

Please don't contribute to WYPR and if you made a pledge, please don't pay it.

I imagine you had your Spring fund drive - I don't know, because I listen to 88.5 in DC now. Mark was Mr. Baltimore -- I proudly told friends who were interested in moving here that they were getting something special in that they would always know what is REALLY going on in our greater community because of Mark Steiner's show. BOY YOU RUINED THAT! I'm now contributing to 88.5 -- if I hear that Mark is back on, then I'll come back to 88.1 but not until. Here is is almost the end of April and I still look for and miss him daily. I listened at work and in my car daily....and felt in the know. What a waste of a good talent and such experience. I can't imagine who could think this was a good more. You don't know how damaging this is to the area and to those of us who felt we had a voice in knowing about the State, and local areas. Whether it was the school board, the Governor, environment, at some time, Mark would have a show on a particular interest. You blew it big time!!! Too bad. Shame on you! C. Baker

While it was within your right to fire Mark, it shows poor business judgement to fire a man whom the community respects, rather than find a way to work out your differences. I would expect your next fundraiser to not go as well.

Bring Marc back please. I sorely miss his show, and the light it shed on Maryland and Baltimore issues. I find myself drifting towards other things to listen too during the 12-2 time slot.

As I said in my letter to Tony Brandon the day after Marc Steiner was sacked, my husband and I joined WYPR in large part because of Marc: WYPR would not exist had it not been for his efforts, and his show has provided unique access to important information about issues that matter to Baltimore residents. As a result of this decision, we have withdrawn our support and cancelled our membership. Having had to do this saddened us greatly, since there are many other programs which we love and which deserve support, but we cannot endorse this action. If Marc Steiner is reinstated in the future (and he agrees to return), we will be delighted to rejoin the membership. At this point I suspect that will take the departure of Tony Brandon, however.

Firing Marc Steiner was a mistake. As a loyal WYPR listener and supporter, you may be interested to know that I did not support the fund drive this year, nor do I listen any longer to the 12-2 time slot inadequately filled with the uninspired show you've stuck Dan Rodricks in. Reconsider. Marc Steiner lends a credibility and gravitas to WYPR's local programming that is sorely missed. Bring Marc Steiner back to WYPR!

WYPR's dismissal of Marc Steiner was arrogant and unexplained, and the WYPR management continues to stonewall Marc Steiner and the public. WYPR is not "Your Public Radio," it is Tony Brandon's private radio.

I didn't renew my membership this year. WYPR's management seems to be missing the point of the "public" in public radio. Bring back Steiner. Rodricks is OK, but the show seems a lot more fluffy than when Marc had the slot. From his accent, I can't even tell if Rodricks is from Balto.

Marc Steiner is a Baltimore treasure. As a teenager he fought for civil rights side by side with the black community; ever since then he has worked for justice and the public good by teaching- in public schools and prisons, educating and inspiring us with his broadcasts, and just generally enriching our lives. His firing was a travesty.

The replacement just doesn't compare to Marc. I try. But each time I tune in anytime between noon and 2PM, I'm disappointed and end up listening to another station. And I will not contribute again to WYPR until Marc Steiner is reinstated. It just does not make sense that he was taken off the air.
