As citizens of Junction City, Kansas, we, Tammy and Jake Robson, feel that the Geary County Animal Shelter, located in Junction City, acted unfairly and took inappropriate actions upon discovering that our family pet had been picked up by animal control and adopted out. His name is Mojo and is a full blooded American Bobtail cat. He is dearly missed and has been our beloved family pet for years. We would like to see Mojo returned to his owners and actions taken to prevent future incidents from occuring.
My family and I would like to take a few moments of your time to get something off of our chests. We are new to Junction City and recently, our family pet, a pure bred American bob-tail cat named Mojo, went missing from our home. The timing which it happened could not have been worse for I am in the military and was at Fort Jackson for training and my wife and children were leaving the next day to come and spend the weekend with me in South Carolina. My family spent the entire day looking for him in our neighborhood, at the park, around the restaurant dumpsters, and just about any place you think a cat would run off to. Sadly they had no luck, even though they found a lot of cats, none of them were our Mojo. My wife called, rightfully upset, to tell me what happened and how hard they had tried. I told her not to worry; he would more than likely return by the time they get back from South Carolina.
Before leaving, she had made arrangements with one of her friends to take care of our other pet, Leonitas, to make sure he had plenty of food and water and to let him out two or three times a day. My wife had told her friend what had happened and she said she would keep and eye for him and put him back into the house should he return.
Upon returning from the visit with me, my wife was even more worried about Mojo because he had not yet come home. My family started searching again and again with no luck. Found a lot of cats, but none of them were ours. A couple of days later my wife had seen an animal control truck drive past and it came to her to call the city animal shelter and see if they have found any cats that matched the description of ours. We never thought about it before because we are new to the area and the last town we lived in, animal control was for the most part non-existent. She called and told me what she was doing and I told her it was a great idea and with our cat having a tag, even though it had not been updated with our new address, the animal shelter would know he belonged to someone. My wife called as planned and sure enough they did have a cat that matched our description of our cat. But before my wife could get excited over it, they informed her that he had been adopted. My wife was heart broken, not only did I love Mojo but everyone in our family did, me, my wife, all five of our kids. He was our baby a member of our family. When my wife asked about the collar, they stated he had none. When my wife asked about getting in touch with the family that adopted him to inform them that his rightful family was there to claim him, in short they told my wife no way. They stated to my wife that they had Mojo for six days, just six days, and put him up for adoption. They said he was adopted right away. Of course he was, he is a great cat and a great pet. So my wife asked if she could get in contact with the family to see if she could work something out. The person in charge told her no so my wife went to someone else for help. After a phone call or two, my wife got what she needed. My wife called the young lady who signed the adoption paper work and she stated that she got Mojo for her boyfriend. We asked if we could talk to him but he refused to speak with my wife or my self. After finding out he is in the Army, I thought maybe there would be a common ground or comrottery and he and his girlfriend would see what Mojo means to my family. I was wrong. My wife pleaded with this lady offering her money over and beyond the cost they paid to adopt our cat telling her how much this cat means to us. Still nothing she informed my wife that her boyfriend bought the cat and he is not selling it and it%u2019s his cat now Mojo is now Monster. How can people be so cruel they have had Mojo not even two weeks compared to our 3 and half years .Do they have a heart or even a conscience? How can they sleep at night? There are plenty of cats that need homes Mojo has a home he belongs to our family. I guess my biggest complaint is, how can the animal shelter adopt out an animal in only six days and refuse to help out the owners of the family? How many other family members have had this happened to them here in this town. How about they go and get all the cats and dogs my family found while looking for Mojo and try and find them a home? Thank you for your time.
