As a high school student at Marion-Franklin, I was recently informed about soda machines being taken out of the school. I seen first hand alot of non-obese students with complaints. Now, while this is a great idea/plan for students who are younger and not responsible decision makers (elementary and middle school students). It is taking away rights to high school students who are feel obligated by peer pressure everyday but still make responsible DECISIONS to turn down drugs, alcohol and practice abstinence. We are taught to be responsible decision makers and to care about our health. So if I decide to drink a bottle of pepsi every once in a while for lunch. That should be our decision. If we pay for our lunch then we should have the option to buy something we like to drink.

When I was in School we had orange drink or milk. And at home we had Tang or powdered milk.We didn'tbitch about it.We understood that Mom was doing the best she could. The government helped.Mom didn't perceive the "hand -up" to become a permanent "hand-out".
We were on welfare and the lunch program for 9 months. There was no forced child support. No cell phones,PS 3 0r X-Box.We played outside and went to the park.Only the men had guns. Not a culture of young thugs created by Liberal policies. If only grades
and performance were as important as Pepsi's....

you are a jerk!!!!!!! i am in middle school and alot of my friends are vegitarian, their decision not their parents or anyone else. we are very responsible decision makers and i find this petition offensive! i am in the 8th grade and not one of my friends eats badly, smokes, drinks, or gets in fights, or anyone else that i know. we are very responsible and i will NOT just sit here and watch you insult us because we are younger. its not like you have more health ideals!!!! just because you are biased doesnt mean you can be such a JERK!

You have to allow people to fail. It's their right. If someone chooses to be obese, that's their right. Don't punish other people for it. Plus, it was never the high school's obligation to try and "fix" the problem of obesity in the first place, so don't take away student's rights in the cross fire of your mistake.

Make no mistake, to the cola companies students are a market to exploit. They target you to make billions in sales. They then spend millions in ad campaigns to target you, and make you into "customers for life" while at the same time lobbying with the sugar industry for government favors and tax breaks. ps -do you know how many $ in electricity are consumed by each of those refridgerated machines? How many vending machines are in the world. If we pulled every machine in the USA, Could we shut down a nuclear power plant? For how many days? Keep studying, and keep practicing democracy to know what's important in the larger scope of the world.
