British Summer Airfares

As we all know British airlines charge far more for flights to all destinations during the british school holidays.
Most families have between 1 - 3 children. Schools are now fining parents if they take their children out of school during term time. This I can understand as the education system costs the taxpayer large sums of money.
The airlines do not appear to have increased overheads during the peak season. The cost of a plane landing and taking off does not increase, the staffing levels are the same. So why do they charge far more. Because they have a captive audiance.  As an example return flights for 2 in the school holidays from UK to Larnaca in the peak season is Ł530.00. The same flights off peak are around Ł300.00.

These charges are hitting the very people who can least afford it. As any parent knows the cost of children is increasing all the time without the airlines continuing to add to the burden.

The British government should direct the airlines to even out their fares so that people with children can enjoy the same cost of flights than those that can holiday off peak.
