the breed is not the problem, The owners of the breed are the problem, Prisions are full of bad breeds and the results of bad breedings, so kill'em off or rehab them? Ask Micheal Vick who the problems are!

The American Pitbull is the best all-around breed ever.

Leave our dogs alone. Start punishing people who are illegally using these wonderful animals.

BSL does nothing but make animals extinct - one day it's American Pit Bull Terriers, then Dobermans, Rotweillers, Labradors, German Shepherds, bull dogs, chihuahuas, poodles, and the list goes on and on. The responsibility should rest on the shoulders of those who train their dogs to attack - a dog will only do what it is trained by the owner to do. Punish the OWNER not the BREED. If a bank robber got away on a bicycle - would you ban ALL bicycles or would you punish the bank robber - not a hard question, and certainly an answer that requires little thought - so THINK just a little, ok?!!

It sounds Cliche but Punish the deed not the breed. I have Rottweilers and both have spent their entire lives not only in formal training but I teach and use them as demo dogs to help train others. Both have titles in both obedience and agility and could not compete if they displayed any aggresive behaviors. The simple fact is there are responsible people out there and we should not be penalized for the misdeeds of others. As a trainer I have seem many many dogs that have distastful behavior and the majority of them are small dogs. This generally happens because people allow small dogs to do things they would never allow a large dog to do. BSL does not and will work because those that are doing bad things with them and against them will move on to another breed thus starting the whole process over again.

Pit bulls should not be banned, if you ban then you would have to ban bulldogs due to the fact that originally that is where pit bulls originated from. Now tell me how many bulldogs do you know of that are naturally vicious? The main reason any dog is vicious is due to the training. It is a proven fact that there are more vicious dogs out there than the pit bull, you cannot punish all dogs of a certain breed just cause of they way a few were trained. The pit bull is a very loyal and loving dog. In fact in WWI they used the pit bull to symbolize loyalty. Many police forces in the USA use the pit bull. If they were so vicious would a police officer really use one as a drug sniffing dog? What about in 2003 when the space shuttle crashed and they used 3 pit bulls to search for them? In the Little Rascals would they use a vicious dog to work around all those kids? And yet they chose the pit bull. Now I'm sorry but that tells me one thing, pit bulls are not the vicious dogs that the media and everyone who chooses to believe them make the breed out to be. If you pass BSL what breed do you think dog fighters will go to next, are you gonna ban that breed as well? If so soon there wont be any breeds of dogs left for to grow up loving and playing with. So please for all of us, the parents, the kids, and mostly for all breeds of dogs out there, please do not pass BSL. Thank you.

Placing restrictions on or banning ownership of a specific breed only serves to encourage the element of society with whom the problem actually lies, to move on to another breed, while unfairly penalizing responsible dog owners. Breed bans are by far and large, unenforceable, and unfairly penalize responsible dog owners who properly train, socialize, care for and supervise their dogs. Placing restrictions on specific breeds of dogs does not address the real issue, which is that of irresponsible owners. Only when such owners are held accountable for the actions of their dogs will adverse dog incidents abate. Only when you see more owners committed to providing the proper training, care, socialization and supervision for their dogs will dog bite incidents be reduced significantly. An effective solution is NOT to make more laws that punish responsible owners and entire breeds, but to enforce existing leash laws and enact dangerous dog laws that are non-breed specific and punish the irresponsible owners. Breed specific laws indemnifies all of the unnamed breeds as being safe by exclusion. The fact that any legislation that targets specific breeds of dogs is ineffective, costly to the community and a poor alternative to a dangerous dog ordinance which would encompass all breeds and place irresponsible owners accountable for their dog’s actions. The Center for Disease Control (CDC) has stated that their data is wrong and not supported by any scientific evidence. Their statistical data was based on newspaper articles and has been found to be unsubstantiated. The CDC has ceased any reference to their data and has indicated that others should do likewise. According to the Center for Disease Control and the American Veterinary Medical Association there is no individual breed of dog that is responsible for a greater number of bites. In fact, both respected organizations support responsible dog ownership as the key factor in reducing bite statistics. Cities and towns need to consider the economical impact of having to enforce a law that is specific as to breed. One county estimated that the cost of enforcing their breed specific ordinance exceeded $300,000.00 per annum. I trust that you will be open minded and listen to responsible dog owners and well known, major organizations such as the American Kennel Club, the American Veterinary Medical Association, the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals, the National Animal Control Association and the American Canine Foundation which do not support legislation that targets any specific breed of dog. Temperament and aggressiveness in dogs are traits that are far more strongly influenced by environment than genetics. So, please, enact a law that emphasizes responsible ownership and your constituents will be glad you did.

As a pit owner, amongst other dogs, I feel that these types of laws do not and will not work. Make the owners responsible, increase cruelty laws, protect responsible owners and good dogs. Not any one breed of any species is inherently bad.

I used to be afraid of Pits, then I actually met one. Leave them alone!! They are beautiful , kind animals. Punish the owners who fight and abuse them. Don't punish the breed!! All they want to do is love their owners and be loved and cared for. If you have a heart you'll stop this ban.

Another ridiculous ruling. It appears that 'following the leader' is catching across the Americas. What does not seem to catch is the fact that these people who set the bylaws are not able to read. If they educated themselves on these breeds then they would also understand how ridiculous this is. Long live the bullies!

It is discriminatory to fine dog owners $500 just because they have a specific breed of dog. Furthermore, it is also unconstitutional. The politicians and citizens behind this bill may wish to rethink their position.

I would love to know if the people that petition in favor of BSL have dogs? How would THEY feel if someone that had no contact with THEIR animal came into the picture and said THEIR precious puppy was all of a sudden banned, and THEY would have to figure something out because it was a "dangerous" breed and not legal in THEIR county. Our Pit is almost 4 years old. His name is Zeus. He gives kisses when you ask. Does a two-step when he gets excited. Love children, especially my fiance's 7 year old son and 2 year old niece. He's allergic to grass. Doesn't need a leash. Sleeps on my pillow every single night. One ear is always sticking up. And he will never ever be taken from us. Period. The point of BSL is to keep violent dogs away. What don't they understand...it's not the dog that should be banned, it's the horribly inhumane excuses for people that train the dogs to be violent that need to be put under the microscope. I truly believe that there should be HSL - Human Specific Legislation. I don't want some disgraceful, unbelieveably heartless THING living in my town that thinks it's acceptable to take an animal...whether it be a Pit, Rottie, or Pomeranian...and turn it into a creature that gives the rest of the sweet natured, gentle dogs that share the same breed a bad rap. What about legislation against dog fighting rings? Or puppy mills? Go head. Try to tell me we have to follow special rules because our dog is a Pit. Because guess what? We will fight until we win.

We have owned pit bulls for many yrs.All our children and grandchildren have been raised with them. They are loving members of the family.Never have we had a problems with them.It is the way they are raised-not the breed.Make the laws harder on the fighters of this awesome breed and harder on the people out there that abuse them-they are the real problem, No more "Slaps on the hand" Make it hurt!! Our 14 yr. old daughter which was 5 at the time was attacked by stray boxer.Had her on the ground by the arm shaking her like a rag doll. Our pit Sassy jumped him and got him off of her and chased him down the drive. She didn't kill him-just got him off of our daughter-saved Kates life. She had to have a port, stitches and 2 weeks worth of Dr. visits-but is fine-thanks to our pit bull.

It's WRONG. Down right UNconstitutional. Don't we have the right to own whatever dog we like? Statistically Pit Bulls Bite less than other breeds. Good dogs will end up dead or neglected because thier responsible owners will have to give them to anyone who will take them. $500 isn't something you can just come up with over night. You are violating your citiens rights!!!!! Irresponsible owners will stikll be irresponsible tommorow.

How can you ban an American hero? The first dog to earn a medal in a war. Stats show that Collies bite more people then pitbulls, so ban Lassie while your at it.

THE LAW IS THE LAW AND IN 2007 THE READING EAGLE PUT AN ADD THAT STATES "GERMAN SHEPARDS SAVES PIT BULLS." THE LAW STATES THAT IF ONE BREED IS RESPONSIBLE FOR MORE THAN A CERTAIN PERCENTAGE OF BITS IN ONE YEAR THEN THAT BREED HAS A SPECIAL LAW AND LICENCE FEE FOR THE FOLLOWING YEAR. GERMAN SHEPARDS BEAT OUT PIT BULLS AND THEY STILL ARE PUTTING THIS BSL ON OUR BREED. THIS IS BULLSHIT, AND I WILL NOT STAND FOR IT! THE LAW IS THE LAW AND EVERYONE SHOULD FOLLOW IT, EVEN THE PEOPLE WHO ENFORCE AND CREATED IT! DANIEL R. OSORIO PIT BULL LOVER!
