Build Gulf of Maine Wind Turbines in Maine

Build Gulf of Maine Wind Turbines in Maine

Target:
Residents of Maine
Sponsored by:

We, the undersigned citizens of Maine, are excited to hear that the Advanced Engineered Wood Composites Center at the University of Maine is working to develop deep-water, offshore wind turbines and platforms for our country.  We want these windmills/platforms to be made in the U.S. and would strongly prefer they be made at Bath Iron Works where we have the ability to build them.  We call on our Congressional delegation, the Governor, and the State Legislature to begin working now to ensure that windmills and platforms that get put into the Gulf of Maine are built here at BIW by skilled Maine workers.

When designing the wind turbines, be sure to use BIRD-FRIENDLY, helix-shaped design, as put forth in another Petition on the subject of Wind Energy. We cannot afford to sacrifice birds for our human energy needs. Fortunately, bird-friendly design allows the birds to actually SEE the "helix-shaped" blades when in motion, so that they don't fly into them. The sort of blades shown in the picture, are NOT bird-friendly and can't be seen by the birds when the blades are in motion.

We absolutely, positively should build Gulf of Maine wind turbines in the Pine Tree State because the people there need work badly and it's not just Mainers that need the money; it's vital to our nation's economy. We need to make the USA number 1 again in everything once again. Also, working Americans who were either born in this country or came here legally are a very valuable economic asset to this nation, NOT a burdensome liability unlike what the so-called US Chamber of Commerce claims.

We should build wind turbines at the Bath Iron Works in Maine, because it would provide jobs, and help boost the economy.

A recent study conducted by the Political Economy Research Institute (PERI) at the University of Massachusetts-Amherst (October 2009) has shown that investments in clean energy (as well as health care and education) create a much larger number of jobs across all pay ranges than spending the same amount of funds with the military. (Here is a link to an earlier 2007 draft of the study: http://www.peri.umass.edu/236/hash/78326f6be5/publication/282/)

Not sure if this is a commercial for BIW or not, personnally I couldnt care less who builds them company wise, BUT I do agree with building them here in the USA. And I also agree that wind power is the answer to our future power needs. And lastly, BIW does rather excellent ship work, so there is no reason they should not do as well in this project as well. Three thumbs up!!!!!

Yes, I believe that wind turbines in the Gulf of Maine would highlight Maine's leading edge role in the environmental movement in this country. And I believe that it is only right that they be built in this country, in Maine, if possible.

that would be just great to see

I do NOT want these wind turbines on Maine's land. I think that this should be a state movement and have no out of state politics.

I strongly believe that wind power is one of the many things we need to look at to reduce our dependency on fossil fuels, reduce emissions, and clean up the environment. This is a positive step, not necessarily a total solution, towards energy independence and a cleaner, safer earth.

Constructing windmills and platforms to harvest the abundant resource of wind in the gulf of Maine is an opportunity that should be immediately seized by BIW. We call on state and national leadership for Maine to be a part of the solution to the real crisis of climate change and the resulting economic transformation from resource depletion.

Look forward to knowing that Maine has made the leap to harness this wonderful renewable resource. And bulding the turbine parts closer to home might decrease costs for those that want to put a turbine on thier farm someday.

Wind energy can be a bridge to a future of clean energy production and is an abundant Maine resource. As elected officials, I encourage you to do your utmost to see that Maine is in the lead for clean energy development and in the creation of the quality jobs that will put us there.

Increasing energy diversity and supply in Maine and elsewhere is crucial in securing our nation's future energy security. By building that infrastructue in Maine the state will take a leading role in the development of new renewable energy tecnologies.

As a resident of Bath, I urge you to support this opportunity to transform the community's largest employer from one that thrives solely on the creation of tools of war to a leader in the peaceful, non-destructive field of green power.

There are still employees at BIW who remember working together to design the manufacture of diverse vessels for industrial clients. They can figure out turbines too. Let's put Maine on the map as a pioneer in the shift from military to green industry!

Absolutely Of course and Now Please.. We Will All Distribute This Page to Big Media and Start Letting those “Useless Talking Heads on TV News” know what’s really worth reporting to the world… Useless they are because who knows if they even know about this? But if they did, they should Report it as we will also through our blogs.. …

I think that having wind turbines manufactured in Maine would be an excellent economic decision, and the building of wind farms in the Gulf of Maine is an excellent environmental decision as well. This venture would really set Maine apart as a leader in natural resource management and innovation.

I will on;ly support this idea if the work and hardware for the project is made in the USA. We have the best workers AND the quality controll to back it up.
