Pakistan Telecom Authority has announced that Effective 1 May 2008
the APC rate to Pakistan will increase from current 2.5 cent to 10 cents a min in wholesale.
What it means is that the callers out side Pakistan will probably have
to pay around 12 to 15 cents a min to call Pakistan in retail, which at this time is around 3 to 5 cents a min.
I and many have worked very very hard to get this rate lower, however the LDI
operators are playing there card and making PTA do this.
The implications of this will be phenomenally bad for the growth of the
economy of Pakistan, as communication again will be limited, and to free the minds and economy freeing the communication gaps is very very important.
After many years India regulator has now finally forced the rate of APC in India from 10 cents to 5 cents, because the LDI cartel there was not wiling to do it. And our country the GOVT is increasing it, what kind of weird policy is that?
I understand that the LDI are having a hard time to make money, but that is due to their own bad business plan and not because the APC is lower, they are not making money from where they should make.
Pakistan is at this time a HEAVEN for users of Telecom Services, Countries give our examples for a great policy, and this small bad step will demolish everything this country has build o.
As a member of WTO PTA should have REMOVED the rate and made it ZERO and let the market forces decide the prices, instead of that they have made it a law that no one can reduce the rates.
The 5 cents going to the poor region of Pakistan is not going to make
enough money for the growth of the economy, and the LOSS that this will make is EXTREEMLY MUCH MORE HIGHER.
It is Extremely important for the people from outside Pakistan to be able to CALL TO Pakistan also at the cheapest possible rates, rather then an extremely high rate of 15 cents a min.
We can not make super Highways, we can not create 20 cheap airlines tomorrow, but the one thing we have that is great, is about to be destroyed right in front of our eyes.
I as a citizen of Pakistan would like to petition against this ruling, and would like the Pakistan Telecom Authority to abolish the entire APC structure and de-regulate it, and let the market forces decide the prices, and make sure that it does not go higher than 2.5 cent current rate.

I am not happy about this rate increase and understand that this is the ptcl in pakistan whose greed is the main reason for this main reason. Whole world are decreasing the rates but there tactics are always how to take out more from oversees pakistani pocket.
These rates are ridiculous, and very unfair to pakistanis abroad trying to keep in contact with family
PTA should not do this as calling to Pakistan will be more costly for the overseas Pakistanis like me & we are already paying a lot to calling our loved ones from outside of Pakistan. PLEASE do not do this. DO NOT DO THIS............. PLEASE ....................
What is PTCL's/Gov aim for this termination tax ? (Give to the poor/Fill their own pockets. How much does it actually cost to terminate a call, seeing that the technology is already in place, it costs nothing to terminate, just overhead costs) UNFAIR!!!!!!

The politicans, the rulers, the army, ... everyone has sucked Pakistan's blood. I ask them to give their citizens at least some space to breath. Life is getting very expensive already .... we were benefitting from previous rates to keep in touch with our loved ones in Pakistan ... these new charges will make things for us very difficult.
this is really not a good and positive act from the pakistan telecom authority.that will reduce the comunication with the people in pakistan and growth rate will decrease.Hence communication is very important for county growth.

Increased Rates means that software houses and call center businesses will move to India or other Asian countries. Pakistan govt. should give cheaper phone calls and cheaper internet so businesses in Pakistan can take advantage and can attract International Customers to Invest in Pakistan.
It is not a good policy because no country in the world is doing such kind of thing. This must be changed.
To stop the Grey Market (illegal call termination business) it does not mean that PTA stop people calling thier Home. If PTA adopts any other decent poliy or offers competative rates, for example other Calling Card companies do that will be much appriciated.
This is the wierd policy, people were saying that after selling the PTCL to Qatar investors, the prices will boost up in few months. NOw we can see it and now Billions of Rupees will go outside of Pakistan. Shame shame

this is another way for the Pakistani government to fleece overseas pakistanis ...and fill up their personal coffers ...i would like to know who suggested this increase and where will all the extrarevenue go ...probably in some corrupt politicians pocket ...sounds like another project of MR. 10% ..in the first tiome in power the electricity rates shot up due to PPP Bhutto selling of to firms like HUBCO ...and know this ...similar pattern....
Telecom was the only sector in pakistan which was still doing well. But now it seems that its destruction has also started....People have greatly reduced calling to Pakistan.
This terrible shock to the Pakistani community who very often were using the cheap call facility but I do know that Pakistan government wouldn't be able to overcome their deficit by puting the pressure on Pakistani within the country out side the country.We strongly demand this tax should be taken off asap!

As a true Pakistani I stronglly disagree with this new tax prices, its absolutly unacceptable, this new government wants money for their own needs not for country and this is not a step towards development but towards dark in this great technological atmosphere they are making it difficult for foreigners to contact Pakistan, thanks

This tax rise is so unfair!!. Students and many other immigrants living abroad have seen a massive increase in their costs for calling back to their home country.

The new government of pakistan doing every worst thing to damage their image,even now overseas pakistani are also geting effected to their activities. Now i am surely missing President Musharraf with his allies (Pml Q and others).
