Calls to Pakistan may increase from 2 cents a min to 15 cents a min.     Pakistan Telecom Autho

Calls to Pakistan may increase from 2 cents a min to 15 cents a min.   Pakistan Telecom Autho

Target:
Pakistan Telecom Authority

Pakistan Telecom Authority has announced that Effective 1 May 2008

the APC rate to Pakistan will increase from current 2.5 cent to 10 cents a min in wholesale.

What it means is that the callers out side Pakistan will probably have

to pay around 12 to 15 cents a min to call Pakistan in retail, which at this time is around 3 to 5 cents a min.

I and many have worked very very hard to get this rate lower, however the LDI

operators are playing there card and making PTA do this.

The implications of this will be phenomenally bad for the growth of the

economy of Pakistan, as communication again will be limited, and to free the minds and economy freeing the communication gaps is very very important.

After many years India regulator has now finally forced the rate of APC in India from 10 cents to 5 cents, because the LDI cartel there was not wiling to do it. And our country the GOVT is increasing it, what kind of weird policy is that?

I understand that the LDI are having a hard time to make money, but that is due to their own bad business plan and not because the APC is lower, they are not making money from where they should make.

Pakistan is at this time a HEAVEN for users of Telecom Services, Countries give our examples for a great policy, and this small bad step will demolish everything this country has build o.

As a member of WTO PTA should have REMOVED the rate and made it ZERO and let the market forces decide the prices, instead of that they have made it a law that no one can reduce the rates.

The 5 cents going to the poor region of Pakistan is not going to make

enough money for the growth of the economy, and the LOSS that this will make is EXTREEMLY MUCH MORE HIGHER.

It is Extremely important for the people from outside Pakistan to be able to CALL TO Pakistan also at the cheapest possible rates, rather then an extremely high rate of 15 cents a min.

We can not make super Highways, we can not create 20 cheap airlines tomorrow, but the one thing we have that is great, is about to be destroyed right in front of our eyes.

I as a citizen of Pakistan would like to petition against this ruling, and would like the Pakistan Telecom Authority to abolish the entire APC structure and de-regulate it, and let the market forces decide the prices, and make sure that it does not go higher than 2.5 cent current rate.

It is outrageous that the govenment should have raised the taxes on incoming calls. It is a burden on onsumers in America which fordes them to cut down on their contact with their loved ones thousands of miles away. Is this what Pakistani government wants? Look at indaia and other nations where thir governments have gladly allowed their compatriots in MAerica to continue to benenfit from the telecommunication revolution across the globe.

I would like to express my deep concern over this issue. Mostly, students are outside who are already living hand to mouth. How come, our Govt is thinking for us ?? They want us to not to be in touch wiht Pakistan. They themselves are rich and even richest people of the world. For them, it really does not matter, but when these ruthless leaders and politicians will start thinking for their poor nation ??

i think that pta is just being greedy, thinking only to benifit the companies involved in termination business. because of PTA's this step calls to pakistan are at-lest twice as expensive than to india.

I may consider moving my family away from Pakistan back to East Africa which will result in Pakistan recieve foreign exchange in remitence sent on a regular basis. In addtion I strongly believe that this increase in telecommunication costs will increase send Pakistan backwards. No company willl ever consider using Pakistan as a call centre .

Increasing the rate makes it harder for Pakistani's to keep in touch with loved ones. This makes countries like U.A.E. look good. This is an appauling waste. Big rich nations offer free telecoms and many new young countries are joining that club. Now Pakistan is opting for isolation.

PTA or any other department of pakistan is full of negligence and crupt people.they dont have creativity or new ideas except to put burden on poor people.my hope that they will reduce the price will not fulfill, because i am nearly dissapointed by Govt policy.

I for one will be making a lot less calls to pakistan. I think it is outrageous and downright greedy to tax people more to call friends and relatives in a poor country where many of them cannot afford to call out of the country. Maybe the Govt wants foreign born Pakistani origin to forget Pakistan!

The Price hike is not fair, its much harder finding a site that offers cheaper rate.. I found one that is pretty good.. only 6 Cents/Min When you register at stana card - International calling card and load with $10 u'll actually receive $20. Use coupon code 267640. http://www.stanacard.com/

It is really a ad step. you know few daysbefore the companies started to make call free to pakistna but now they themselve are shocked of this rate.I dont know what Our Gov wants, making money from all thoese callers who call Pakistan to their loved onces. I think ther will be a time comming when our Gov will start charging 1P even for thinking about Pakistan.

This is a rediculous step. If PTA thinks that there is going to be more money (by raising the tax), then they need to have a mere 10% wisdom in order to revert the tax. Few years back PTCL lowered their rates and that caused an increase in revenue...wake up PTA...you dont have to be a rocket scientist to figure these things out

The new tax on calls is ridiculous - how can we keep in touch with loved ones? I talk to my family in Pakistan a lot but have had to cut back considerably because the price to cal has tripled!!! This is not fair on us ordinary people....

I think this is a gift from new Zardari Goverment. If it is not then it should be revised and chrages should be reduced to $0.05 (which is double than before)

It is highly regretable on my government's part that in this era of ever increasing inflation call charges to the loved ones have increased thus depriving the faraway ones the opportunity to talk more comfortably. I hope it is reversed in the interest of overseas pakistanis who are always at the receiving end like in airport taxes from pakistan

Living here in Sweden as a student, there are many infact all the pakistani students are effected by this policy also. Students here are finding it very difficult to call pakistan at this much high rates. On behalf of all of us i want to say these rates should be miinimized to maximum extent possible.
