Hackneys' only gymnastic club, North East London Gymnastics club, is in danger of closing down if they don't move to a new venue soon - the current venue, Stoke Newington School, is closing the sports hall as part of the "Building schools for the future", now scheduled to start on the 6th of July 2009. This gives us just 3 weeks to secure this new site for our non-profit gym club.
North East London Gymnastics club has found a building which would be suitable for their purpose, which is the old ZoomAround building in Milton grove, the only building in the area which has the double height ceiling required. We have offered to pay the full commercial lease on the building and handed in a strong business proposal. We just need to cut through the red tape and get a decision made. We are not asking for any money from the council, all we need is someone to say YES. A short list of prospective tenants for the building should be drawn up by the 25th June 2009 so please act now.
Please stand up and be counted and help us cut through the red tape and resolve this problem.
Hackney needs this gymnastics club to keep delivering gymnastics to our community. Lets ensure that this club is able to continue to deliver this Olympic sport to your children, your future children and grandchildren with this new home in Hackney. With this new facility we could not only support the existing 300 children but also, offer this to the 500 children on the waiting list. Giving more children the opportunity to be off the streets and thriving in a sporting environment. If we shut 1500 school children could also lose gymnastic in their school.
Thank you North East London Gymnastic Club www.nelgc.org

Dear Jules Pipe, We the undersigned support the decision to award the ZoomAround building in Milton Grove in Stoke Newington N16, to NELGC (North East London Gymnastics Club), in order to secure the basis for a strong future for gymnastics in Hackney, and provide a valuable and much needed service to the borough.
We thank you for reading our petition and note our strong wishes,
We signed the "CAN WE AFFORD TO LOSE THIS OLYMPIC SPORT IN AN OLYMPIC HOST BOROUGH?" petition!

gymnastics is a very important sport and a valuable way to harness the incredible energy of young boys. My son is desperate to join the club after several excellent sampler classes (and a brilliant end of term display) at his primary school. Please secure the old Zoomaround building for the use of the North East London Gymnastics Club our children: potential gymnastics stars of the future! Donna McLean

I am astonished that a borough hosting the Olympic games that will earn millions are incapable of finding a school to host some kids on a Friday night!!

This club offers young children in Hackney to gain skills in gymnastics, my daughter is looking forward to joining the group but the future looks uncertain without a locally situated building to house them. The zoomaround building is well suited for this purpose and serve to both get that space up and running again and so that it can once again be used as a community resource.

More must be done to increase sport not decrease it, as continuing examples of this decrease appear. Do the right thing.

NELGC is Hackney's only gymnastics club and has a long history in this community. Surely this is just the kind of productive outlet we should be providing for the youth in this area. Particularly with the Olympics coming here we should be preserving this kind of club.

Loosing the NELGC would be a great loss to the community.
As the 2012 Olympic hosts, we should be encouraging our children to take part in sport, and providing the necessary facilities.

The children of Hackney need and deserve a facility like the one available to it at the now defunct Zoomaround. My son has been waiting to join NELGC for about 1 year but due to the demand for places he has not yet been offered a place. A new and dedicated site will increase the number of children able to make use of the excellent training and discipline that comes courtesy of the NELGC.

i think it is essential to set an example as a host borough for London 2012 that the children in the area have an opportubnity to fulfill their potential in gymnastics and can aspire to the spirit of the games in attracting new recruits.

This gym is a fundamental part of the local community and it's nonsense to close it. We are trying to encourage our children to be as active as possible, the gym should stay open.
