Canada calls for animal abuse law changes!

  • Target: ANIMAL CRUELTY LAWS IN CANADA
1.Criminal Code provisions on animal cruelty have changed very little since 1892 and are seriously inadequate

2. Parliament has been debating since 1999 reforms to these laws, which were passed by the house of commons in 2002 and 2003,but were later blocked by Senate

3. In October 2006 and agian in November 2008, Mp Mark Holland introduced a Private Member's Bill, currently numbered C-229, which is identical to Bill C-50 from the 38th Parliament, and which takes a comprehensive approach to refoming Criminal Code provisions on animal cruelty

4.And the passage of Bill S-203, through it raised penalties for animal cruelty offences, in all other respects failed to modernize the laws

WE THE UNDERSIGNED CITIZENS(OR RESIDENTS)OF CANADA CALL UPON THE MINISTER OF JUSTICE:
TO INTRODUCE GOVERMENT LEGISLATION AMENDING THE CRIMINAL CODE PROVISIONS OIN ANIMAL CRUELTY BASED ON BILL C-229

I ask you to think of all the animals that have been starved to death, burned in microwaves, beaten, bound and dragged behind cars. They need a law that will protect them from such heinous acts of cruelty.  Please, don%u2019t sweep this under the rug any more.  Bill S-203 was not the answer.  There is no point increasing penalties when so many serious abusers can%u2019t even be prosecuted, let alone convicted.  Parliament must stop playing politics with puppies!
