    Despite years of protests and petitions, worldwide, Canada is continuing it's seal hunt. Nearly ONE MILLION baby seals will being clubbed or shot to death in just 3 years. Canada still refuses to end their reign of terror.
    Canada's seal hunt is the largest deliberate slaughter of marine mammals in the world. The hunt for these seals are primarily for the fur industry. However, the penises of the seals are sold for producing love potions.
    Canada actively promotes this barbaric slaughter of wildlife. There will be an on going global boycott of Canadian Seafood. There will also be a huge decline in the number of tourist visiting Canada due to their stand on this horrific issue. This will result in a damaging economic effect on Canada. Boycotts of manufacturers, purchasers and designers will have a great impact on Canada's need for this industry.
    We demand Canada stop this merciless slaughter of defenseless creatures for nothing more than greed. Canada must end this massacre in order to restore their reputation as a humane and responsible society. Once Canada bans this cruel industry not only will their reputation be restored, but their economic status and tourism will be restored as well.

Dear Law Makers,

We, the undersigned, are outraged at Canada's continued Government Approved slaughter of both the Harp and Hooded baby seals. We urge you to end this brutal commercial seal hunt.

We pledge to boycott Canadian Seafood, along with restaurants and stores where it is sold.

We pledge to spend our tourism dollars in a nation that does not actively promote the barbaric slaughter of wildlife.

We further pledge to boycott any company, manufacturer or designer that uses fur.

We join the global community in these efforts.

We hope that by your government putting an end to this massacre, this will restore your reputation as a humane and responsible society. Once this cruel and murderous practice ends, not only will your reputation be restored, but your economic and tourism status will be restored as well.

Can a dissenting opinion be posted here? I think not but I will post anyway. I've contacted many anti-seal hunt organizations repeatedly and the vast majority never reply. Stop the seal hunt? I assume this is for humanitarian reasons and the hunt is incredibly brutal, thus your desire to stop the hunt. BUT... Each adult seal eats 7 pounds of fish (and crustaceans, mussels, etc.) a day and we, humans, have killed off the majority of the seal's natural predators. I got these stats(>) from the web: >Every individual adult harp seal eats approximately 7 pounds of fish every day, or 1.25 tons of fish every year. So 300,000+ extra seals eating 1.25 tons of fish each year means an increase of 375,000 TONS of fish per year and that will increase each year until they begin to breed, at which time the amount of increase will begin to increase exponentially until all the fish are gone and they die out. But its not just the fish that will be gone: >Harp seals consume a wide range of prey species and their diet appears to vary with age, season, location and year. Harp seals will eat a lot of different seafood like crab, krill, crustations, capelin, plaice, eels, shrimp, salmon, herring, octopus, flounder, cod, plankton, smelt, anchovies, jellyfish and squid. >Today there are too many harp seals and less amounts of fish. As time continues the population levels of these particular seals has also begun to bring more and more problems. They have been known for having "seal invasions" that cause damage to shores and docks. It is believed that the cause of these invasions is due to food migration. I believe it is imperative that you stop the 'Stop the Hunt' campaign until you can provide a workable solution to management of the seal population. ------------------------------------------------------------------ On a related matter there is the cruelty. Assuming you realize that the seals must be culled somehow the only other issue is the cruelty. I talked with a sealer (once) who was articulate. He believes the sealers would switch methods of putting down the seals in a heartbeat if anyone could find a workable alternative to clubbing. Bullets cost money and damage the hide but the big reason they don't use guns (despite the propaganda otherwise) is that they freeze up and jam. Sealer's go out onto the ice flows for weeks at a time so if a gun is a sealers only method he's done for the day (like a cabby with a engine problem). So reliability is at the top of his list for any method he would use. Also he talked of the speed requirement nixing anything that needed time to be reset or reloaded. I think the best we can do is find a better, more humane method for putting the seals down AND take steps to ensure that each part of the seal is put to use. ------------------------------------------------------------------ The only way you should be 'stopping the seal hunt' is if you have a plan in place to cull the seal herd in some other fashion. I believe some biologist (or whatever) should be appointed to manage the herd size and should be tasked with ensuring the survival of that species whilst ensuring their impact on the environment is reasonable. Ask yourself 'What if we completely stop the seal hunt?'. How many more seals will there be (over 300,000 from Canada and 85,000 from Namibia each year) and where will their food come from? I suggest that you rethink your strategies because if you succeed you will wipe out the already-ravaged fish stocks.
