CANTER THOROUGHBRED RESCUE KEEPING SECRET

CANTER THOROUGHBRED RESCUE KEEPING SECRET

Target:
CANTER OFF-TRACK THOROUGBRED RESCUE,  MICHIGAN
Canter MI is a part of a well known national Thoroughbred rescue that specializes in finding off-track thoroughbreds new homes. Many of these rescued horses would have wound up going to slaugher if not for the wonderful work of Canter. Canter Michigan has been licenced by the Michigan Racing Commission for the past eleven (11) years. However, it has recently come to our attention that the Michigan Racing Association has "all of a sudden" decided NOT to allow Canter on the track anymore.  This is new news to us but not to Canter Michigan. Canter has known about this new "banishment" for several months but for some reason has decided NOT to divulge this devistating news to the public. We are wondering why the secrecy? Who are they trying to protect? Of course we can understand them "not wanting to anger the Commission" and wanting to try to "work it out for themselves" to get back into the good graces of the Racing Commission, but we think by withholding this information Canter MI is doing a dis-service to the horses. PUBLIC OUTRAGE is called for here as horses are being sent to their deaths while we are made to wait in silence and ignorance while Canter Michigan trys to "work it out" for themselves. We, Friends of Equines think that this issue is something that should be widely publisized and not hidden under the rug. Public embarassment is one of the few tools we have available to us and is a powerful one but will not work if TRUTH is supressed. Shame on you Canter Michigan. How long will you have us wait before we start "making a fuss" over this? It has already been THREE MONTHS since the ban and how much progress have you made? How long should we wait to get the word out about the callous-indifference the Michigan Racing Commission has shown to not only your rescue but to ALL rescues? This is EXACTLY the kind of story we need to EXPOSE to prove our point about the racing industry.....that they just dont give a dam. Why are you trying to protect them when you should be exposing them?
Canter, Michigan, this petition is for YOU - imploring you to do the right thing and call the press about this. Let the world know and you will see how quick the Michigan Racing Commission "sees the error of their ways" and come around to our way of thinking. We doubt you will accomplish much playing "nicey nice" with the powers-that-be. There is only one thing they understand and that is PUBLIC EMBARASSMENT. What are you waiting for? Write a press release and TELL on the dirty, greedy sobs.

Here is a link to Canter Michigans website where you can contact them to let them know what you think of their keeping the Michigan Racing Commissions "dirty little secret" about their banning them;

Canter Michigan Home
 http://www.canterusa.org/michigan/

and here is a link to a petition directed at the Michigan Horseracing Commission so you can tell them what you think of them banning horse-rescuers from their tracks;

http://www.thepetitionsite.com/1/tb-racing-commission-says-no-2-tb-rescue

and below are some media outlets we can all contact in hopes of getting some press coverage of this devistating news that Canter Michigan is trying to hide;  Call and tell them the news that Canter wont tell: Michigan Racing Commission BANS Horse-Rescue from Track!

Give these animals freedom for the rest of their lives. Give them a home, where they will be cared for with love and respect througout their remaining years. Killing animals is just wrong, when will humans see this simple truth?

Why WOULDN'T you want these horses rescued? Then they are taken off of the trainers/owners hands once they're "done with them." Horse racing is never going to be banned but at least let the horses enjoy retirement. You're giving yourselves more of a bad name. Unbelievable how irrational people are just to make themselves look good. What harm has canter even done???? Now ask yourself what harm has the racing industry done on these horses!

Just beacsue an animal can no longer perform to the specifications of the owner/trainer does not mean that the animal is expendable. Slaughtering animals is wrong.

I used to like horse racing, but when I started learning about the dark and dirty secrets that the racing industry likes to hide from the public, I became disgusted. This is just another disgusting excuse for human behaviour. I would LOVE to own an off the track horse! People don't even realize the torture that these horses endure every single day of their life, pretty much from birth on. Boycott horse racing all together!

We owned an off the Track Race Horse for two years. She became our best friend. We just recently had to put her down do to melonoma and it was the saddest day of our life. But it was a pleasure to own an off the race track horse. She was getting high scores in dressage and would jump anything we put in front of her. Please save these horses so that another family will be able to enjoy the freindship of one of these magnificient horses. The Michigan Race track should be ashamed of themselves for not allowing other families and horses the joy of owning one of these beautiful creatures. I hope you can stop this disgrace to our country and our beloved Race Horses.

This is crazy! Allow people to find these horses homes - there are plenty of people who are looking for a horse to love - adopt them out to rehabilitative programs.

please have a heart for our horses.Please help to save them not murder them. Be an example for our next generation. It's horrific enough to know how many people have been murdered in this ridiculous war, do we have to murder our innocent horses too? When will someone have a heart. Please put your heads together and figure out a different way.

If the rescue group can help even just a few of the horse when they no longer can race what harm does it cause. the track should support them. you buy a horse and put mass amount of money into them and just throw them out like trash. how hard is it to put a little effort out to get the horse a home they deserve that much after doing everything that you ask. a race track that works with a rescue is helping to get rid of a problem then adding to it.
