Care2 abrogated its mission by selling ads to Walmart

Target:
Stop Walmart advertising on Care2
Sponsored by:
The mission of this petition is simple - to eliminate Wal-Mart advertising here at Care2.  With the advent of Wal-Mart advertising on this, the greenest of the green Internet communities, we believe Care2 corporate management has abrogated its mission - and in so do has tainted our online community and damaged its credibility.  The mere inclusion of Wal-Mart advertising hints that there may be a willingness on the part of Care2 to compromise its core values.  For myself, as author of this petition, that is not acceptable.  Wal-Mart does not even remotely espouse green values.  Rather it epitomizes the very worst in corporate greed and human rights and environmental abuses.  Wal-Mart is not only a poor neighbor in all communities where it has established is monolithic presence, it flaunts laws, practices appalling workplace and manufacturing facility abuses here and abroad and shows no genuine concern for workers, the environment, or the lives and communities it devastates.  It couldn't be more obvious  that Wal-Mart is attempting to polish it's appalling corporate image by involving the greenest of the green in a new marketing strategy.  Front page advertising on Care2.  Whatever they paid - it's not worth the already devastating damage done to the Care2 image.  By placing Wal-Mart ads on our Internet home we believe Care2 has abrogated the core mission of this community - an unwavering commitment to human rights, the environment and the world.  Wal-Mart has no place here.  Express yourself - speak out against Wal-Mart ads on Care2!

I'm seeing a lot of articles about how big corporations are advertising their new "green" ideas, but I'm not seeing any indication of how they are treating their employees, if the sweatshops have ended. I hope they are not using their new green products to hide the fact that they are still basically relying on sweatshop labor. If they have stopped sweatshop activities, they should be announcing that with absolute glee. I don't see that.

WalMart - the High Cost of Low Prices is a movie everyone should see! Has Wal-Mart changed it's ways? Allowing Unions? Paying fair wages to their employees so the government doesn't have to subsidize their healthcare, etc? Paying fair wages to the laborers in China? If not, how can Care2 allow Wal-Mart to advertise on their site? Please remove them immediately! Shocking!

I can't understand why Care2 is abandoning its integrity by endorsing companies such as Walmrt and Proctor & Gamble - the list of ethical companies is growing every day,and it would be more in line with Care2's commitment to "make a difference" by supporting and promoting them.

Walmart is absolutely a destroyer disguised as yer good buddy, but this website wants those bucks, just like the politicians do. What's worse are the ads that expand with no warning and without having any cursor over it -- just going to hit the link for the next page in your message box often has the result of your clicking on an ad that suddenly expanded, coincidentally just as you are about to click to the next message link. Very cute. Yeah, they did a great job redesigning this website -- to maximize advertising revenue -- congratulations Care2 ; /

This is pretty weak, Care2. Yeah, WalMart is doing more than a lot of companies to "go green" -- but at what cost? It's easy to spend an extra few cents making the right environmental choices when you're making dollars hand-over-fist exploiting your workers, the communities around your stores, and the people who produce the products you sell! How many pounds of offset carbon emissions is one indentured child laborer in China worth? How many acres of rainforest do you have to save to make up for one employee dead of a curable disease because they didn't have health insurance and couldn't pay for it out-of-pocket? When you count the energy you save, do you add the power saved by boarding up whole rural down-town shopping districts to the power you save by selling CFL's instead of conventional light bulbs? Seriously, this is unconscionable.

Because I believe Wal-mart is a corporate giant that does not care for it's employee's, the communitees's in which they do business, the environment or customer safety, I have not shopped there in several years. It is an insult to see them advertising here on care2! I'm sure we could find more responsible advertisers!

With the advent of Wal-Mart advertising on this, the greenest of the green Internet communities, we believe Care2 corporate management has abrogated its mission - and in so do has tainted our online community and damaged its credibility! Whatever they paid - it's not worth the already devastating damage done to the Care2 image. By placing Wal-Mart ads on our Internet home we believe Care2 has abrogated the core mission of this community - an unwavering commitment to human rights, the environment and the world! Randy Paynter choose the right side! Its greed or compassion its not greed and compassion! Thank you for your attention!

Walmart is an abusive and horrible place for workers. On top of that the clothes they sell are made by slave labour. I don't think having their adverts sends the right message!

We, the people who are active here in Care2 to a higher or lesser degree, are REALLY GETTING FED UP with unethical adverts. Some people think we´re wasting valuable time signing these petitions and that we should be using this time to help animals, but trying to stop unethical adverts in Care2 IS HELPING ANIMALS!! Directly or indirectly! How can an animal rights activist be happy using a website that advertises the very companies we are campaigning against??!!! Randy Paynter, do you really think you could gradually and quietly sneak these adverts in and that we would either not notice or not Care2 ????!!!! Come on!!! Too many of these, and too much ignoring your most faithful users and I´m telling you I´m leaving!! And I won´t be the first!! Where have your values gone?! McDonalds, IAMS, Walmart, Whiskas (indirectly)... what the hell´s going on???!!!! We´re being bombarded with unethical propaganda in a supposedly ethical website!! WHY????!!!! You know, to be here being offended by such adverts, I could be getting tips on how to best clean my house from the Procter & Gamble effing page ... might as well, what´s the difference?! Please do something NOW. Respect.

I ABSOLUTELY AGREE WITH THIS COMMENT!!! WELL SAID JILL!! Jill Gabreau, France I am appalled to discover Wal-Mart advertising on C2 & support the call to remove it. This corporation has participated more than any other in the loss of US manufacturing jobs, nearly 3 million in just one 3-yr period (2001-04), & the ballooning of the US trade deficit with China. They have made their fortune by dumping cheap Chinese-produced merchandise on the market and by taking advantage of China's semi-Stalinist labor system. By state design, Chinese workers have no power to affect their conditions of work. They are routinely paid rural-level subsistence wages -as little as 15 to 30 cents an hour- when they are paid at all. Employers tend to recruit childless, young, single women, whom they pack into cement-block dormitories to which the women are commonly restricted when they're not on the factory floor. They cannot leave. They organize at the peril of imprisonment or torture. Wal-mart's success is based on this system of slavery.

I add my voice to those who ask the admin of Care2 to remove advertisement by Wal-Mart from this website. Although the revenues received must be great, we, the members of Care2 are strongly opposed to the many practises of Wal-Mart and find it reprehensible that they are advertising on this site. Please look for another company which upholds Care2 values to advertise here. Thank you for your consideration of this important matter.
