WE, THE UNDERSIGNED, IN THE INTERESTS OF THE HUMANE TREATMENT OF DOGS, DO HEREBY PETITION THE CARROLL COUNTY OHIO COMMISSIONERS TO DIRECT THE CARROLL COUNTY DOG WARDEN TO CEASE AND DESIST FROM GASSING DOGS AT THE CARROLL COUNTY POUND AND TO IMMEDIATELY IMPLEMENT EUTHANASIA OF DOGS BY INTRAVENOUS INJECTION.

Barbaric. Inhumane. Untolerable. Do you realize what mental strain you put on your employees who have to do the "clean-up" of unwanted pets in your county? It is horrible enough to euthanize with a lethal injection and see an innocent life taken, but to also hear their pain and torture through gassing? It is through human err that millions and millions of beautiful and loving creatures have to die everyday in shelters across the US. People just do not get it!! Out of sight, out of mind? Is that it? Well, commissioners, you need to go and witness a gassing or two and see if it draws a tear. And if it doesn't, then you do NOT have an ounce of compassion in your hearts! My local shelter gives a sedative injection prior to the euthanasia. This is truly the most humane way. The most humane way of course, is to spay and neuter your pets. Having a litter of kittens or puppies should be a true embarrassment today.

We - the rest of the nation, are looking to your community and measuring accordingly. The animals’ plight in having millions of them euthanized each year due to the carelessness of our society is far enough. I am a shelter manager but I do pull dogs from Carrollton because of the barbaric practice of euthansia by means of gassing. This practice is completely outdated and unecessary. All forms of euthania should be by letal injection ONLY!

It's horrible enough that we have to put animals to sleep, but it's even worse when they have to die suffering. If a person killed an animal that way in a home, it would be considered animal cruelty. Why is it not animal cruelty when an animal shelter does it?

Gassing of animals is extremely inhumane and not necessary. If an animal MUST be euthanized the nationally accepted method is by injection. May I suggest those in a position of taking care of the unwanted animals in Carroll county ALL read the book "Redemption" and set the positive goal of becoming a "No Kill" county. Well worth the read and with simply making the choice to put forth the efforts needed a "No Kill" county IS possible.

Explosions of these chambers is constantly documented throughout the country 2) The technicians administering the gas are also exposed to the fumes, causing illness and law suites against a county that is hard pressed for money anyway 3)the process does not always kill the animal completely, causing the terror to be administered again and again to the same poor, innocent animal! 4) the gassing causes severe pain to the inner ear causing the poor defenseless animal to die suffering and in pain. If the insane psychopath who bombed the Alfred P. Murrah Federal Building in downtown Oklahoma City, Oklahoma, that claimed 168 lives and left over 800 people injured was given a lethal injection, don't defenseless animals deserve the same? Also note that more than often, dogs and cats who survive the first gassing are left in the tank while animals that are alive are packed in. It is a sin to treat our animals this way as God has made us stewards and protectors of his wonderful creation. Please stop gassing.

As someone originally from Ohio and a devoted animal rights advocate, I cannot believe that they are still gassing animals in Carroll County. This needs to stop immediately. It's inhumane and antiquated. Please take heed of this petition! Thank you.

While we would all like to see the euthanasia of healthy animals cease altogether, we know that that is not possible and may never be. However, we must use the most humane methods possible when euthanasia is necessary, and that is by injection. It is certainly not by gassing, which should be illegal. It certainly is immoral and only increases and protracts the suffering of animals who have most often been through enough. There is no excuse for any shelter to continue using the gas chamber.
