The other day I saw a programme on TV. It was called 'Toddlers & Tiaras'. I was shocked to see the world of Child Pageants.
This petition is created in the hope of having Child Beauty Pageants banned in the United States. Child 'beauty' Pageants transform children as young as 3 into mini Adults - it's so sad. Parents and 'Pageant Coaches' style them and add years to their young age, by plastering them in makeup, gluing on false eyelashes, dressing them in wigs and spraying on a 'stinging' fake tan all over their body. All this takes hours out of a child's life, as many as 6 hours in one sitting. That's not including performance training for hours on end. Children, as young as 3 yrs are trained on how to perform on stage and how to get the judges' attention through blowing kisses, winking, wiggling and posing like an adult swim-wear model -- yes, in swimwear... often bikinis.
Also, tragically, their parents give them disappointed and disapproving looks whenever they get things wrong, and some children even cry on stage because they know mum or dad is watching them as they 'get it wrong'. IT'S MENTAL ABUSE, THAT'S WHAT IT IS!! They are depriving these kids essential socialization, gained only through play time and natural interaction. Winning a tiara or a $5,000 prize means everything to these parents. Incidentally, I've heard that some even put their children through plastic surgery, to increase their chances of winning.
If you're as upset about this as I am, please sign this petition. I'm based in the United Kingdom, but I promise to forward this signed petition to those that can do something about this. Child-exploitation, at any level, is frowned upon here in the UK. The National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Children (NSPCC) would have something to say about it, I'm sure. The U.S. has a similar organization(s) and I'll pass the results of this petition over to them, but don't let it rest here! You can do something else too! Sign this, but please also write to your politicians and child protection agencies, as this petition alone surely won't be enough.

Child 'beauty' Pageants turn children as young as 3 in to Adults. Parents and so-called Pageant Coaches style them and add years to their young age, by plastering them in makeup, adding false eyelashes and dressing them in wigs and deprive them from their innocence and play time. It's true, the children get to wear pretty dresses, but the price they pay is very heavy. They are made to train for hours, (on how to perform on stage and how to get the judges' attention through blowing kisses, winking, wiggling, etc) and tragically, they receive disappointed and disapproving looks from their parents when they refuse to comply, get things wrong or fail to get a tiara. Some parents have even given their children plastic surgery. THIS REALLY MUST STOP! THE AMERICAN PEOPLE SHOULD NOT TOLERATE THIS! Protecting Children from Exploitation is one of the most important issues the world has to stamp out. These so called 'child beauty pageants', are not beautiful at all, they are an endorsement of Child Erotica! Please support this petition to have it stopped.
