Urge China to reconsider UN action in Burma!

  • by: Nessa Hutcheson
  • recipient: Chinese Ambassador to the United Nations WANG Guangya

Initially, China rejected UN action in Myanmar/Burma because the conflict between the junta and the protestors was an "internal issue".

But Kenji Nagai, 50, a video-journalist for Tokyo-based APF News, was killed by the junta in Yangon on Thursday, September 27, 2007. If the junta is now shooting at foreigners, the issue is no longer just "internal".

Urge Ambassador WANG Guangya to reconsider China's stance now that the situation has become an international incident.

Your Excellency,

Initially, China rejected UN action in Myanmar because the conflict between the junta and the protestors was an internal issue.

We, the undersigned, would like to call to your attention to Kenji Nagai, 50, a video-journalist for Tokyo-based APF News. Kenji Nagai was killed by the junta in Yangon on Thursday, September 27, 2007. If the Myanmar junta is now shooting at foreigners, this has now become an international incident, and reconsideration may be necessary.

Thank you for taking the time to consider this issue.
