Citizen's Mandate 4 Green Government

Citizen's Mandate 4 Green Government

Target:
Environmental Protection Agency
About this Petition:

On January 20, 2008 %u2013 in about a month %u2013 American citizens and citizens from around the world will converge on Washing, D.C. for the inaugural celebration welcoming our new president to office.  D.C. will have an opportunity with this captive audience to present itself as a model city for environmental consciousness.

It all starts with Barack. We wish for all concerned citizens to mandate that the government lead by example and implement what can be done now.

-I.e., I%u2019d love to see Obama require all government vehicles, all state vehicles, all municipalities, all school busses, fleets of law enforcement vehicles, and delivery trucks either use alternative fuels or be hybrids. Imagine if you will, a bullet proof Escalade-hybrid Limo for our new president. Wouldn%u2019t government contracts to build alternative fuel vehicles be an incentive to the auto industry?

Secondly, this cause was formed to gather suggestions for ideas that will demonstrate an immediate impact on our environment, present themselves as viable and doable, and that can potentially cause job growth.                      *Review: Doable ideas that have an immediate environmental impact and create jobs.

Thirdly, this cause is also to shine light on things we know already exist and/or are in development. Knowledge of what%u2019s being done can inspire others to do more.
*The solar panel ski jacket, the solar cell phone chargers, turbine power made small enough for homes, incentives for home buyers to use solar panels, mandates that all homes in the southwest be at least partly powered by sun, hydro generators made small enough to supply some energy for home use, anything to take one off the grid. Incentives for builders to build solar powered homes, incentives for banks to give better rates for solar powered homes, and so on.

The Desired Outcome of this Petition:

We want America's leaders to lead by example and thereby encourage other governments, citizenships, and individuals to act accordingly.
*Suppose the four million visitors expected to converge on Washington saw a city committed to managing the waste from this event, blue cans for plastics and aluminum on every corner; suppose children went home and part of their story about what they experienced in Washington was how clean and organized it is and how seriously the locals took their responsibility to the world by modeling correctly for the tourists.

It all starts with Obama. The Mayor of D.C. can make a public statement. Obama himself can comment on how important it is to mange the waste for that event responsibly. Signage encouraging the visitors to think green, booklets and educational materials to inform them of what they can do in their respective communities.

** Please help us %u2013 sign the petition and let%u2019s get the governments attention. The inauguration is about a month away. We can draw enough attention to actually make Washington, D.C. take action and the ripple affect throughout the world will be a tremendous kickoff for the message that we Americans are doing all we can to lead the world in developing and implementing a national consciousness for environmental responsibility.

President Obama - lead by example and assure that the White House Landscaping is conducted in an environmentally sound manner: pure organic turf and plant management. And manage the runoff from the White House in an environmentally responsible manner. Redirect the downspouts from the White House to rain barrels for free water during dry spells, and direct downspouts from the White House to rain gardens (planted depressions in the lawn) that will enable water to percolate through the soil and recharge groundwater and minimize excessive and damaging runoff into rivers and streams (also minimizing the capacity needs of infrastructure). Your example will result in a groundswell of activity nationwide that will create jobs in the manufacture and installation of rain barrels and the installation of rain gardens (the CO2 uptake by the additional plantings will also be a benefit)
