Wild Rabbits Being Shot by Gunman Hired by Palmia Retirement Community Homeowners Association

The City of Mission Viejo officials have given the go ahead to homeowners association in a gated retirement community  to control its rabbit population by shooting the animals with pellet guns.  One petition was sent to Dave Leckness Major Pro Tem who at first refused to acknowledge the petition by calling it a prank because there were signatures from around the world and that the name of the retirement community was spelled wrong, then he acknowledged the petition by saying that he had a list of over 800 residents that were extremely happy with their plan.  On August 10 Mr. Leckness also said that it was now up to the Palmia Retirement Home Owners Association to stop the eradication effort, not the council's.  No wildlife experts were ever contacted regarding the impact of the cull on other wildlife species that also live in the area and depend on the Wild Rabbits for survival.  Eddie Zorehkey, president of the Palmia Homeowners Association said it was "Disturbing that (the issue of the rabbits keeps coming up).  According to one resident, Mr. Zorehkey told the residents just last week that he intends on having all rabbits killed.

We are in total protest to this debacle that has been construed by the LaPalmia Retirement Community and are requesting that you rethink your stance on this matter immediately!  The only crime is that these creatures were born here and this is their habitat!  These people need to live with them, not against them.  As seniors, I would think they would want to leave a living legacy to the future generations, not the cull of these wonderful and intelligent creatures.
