In part, the American economy is based on a prosperous middle class of consumers. Besides bailing out the lending institutions, Congress should capitalize the consumers. A million dollars apeice ought to get the job done. People could then pay for houses, furniture, appliances, cars and college tuitions and put whatever is left over in the bank.
We the undersigned, demand that Congress allocate enough of the $7 hundred billion bailout money to give each adult American citizen a million dollars.

Let's live up to "of the people, by the people, for the people." Instead of continuing to live on credit and corporate/Wall Street greed, give the money to US citizens where it's really needed - and have it go immediately into the economy from the local level.

I have wondered why don't the working class people that could use the money, not get some. We could pay off the credit cards, home mortgage, loans, car loans, etc.... Then when we have left over money, we probably would buy a new car, new furniture, TV, possibly a new home, etc.... However, I guess the common people aren't rich enough to help.

Helping the people will help everyone else...if i pay off all my bills...that gives me better credit...which allows me to take out loans for products again.
lets make this happen

I agree, lets us decide which companies remain in business. This will tell our so called LEADERS which companies are worthy of our business, which ones we trust and which ones deserve it. My house is going into forclosure in 2 weeks, I asked countrywide for assistance for 7 months, but not once have they even responsed to my request. Not even one call or letter. Do I want them to have a bailout-HELL NO. The reason I am losing my house--I lost my job because of cut backs. I want a bailout please.

That's what I'm talking about someone actually hit the nail on the head. How in fact is bailing out the lending and the auto industry suppose to fix this derailed economy and enable the job losing, wage decreasing, consumer to apply for anykind of loan? Der!

It's our money anyway. We deserve the chance to rebuild the economy and build our futures. The government never knows all the answers. As a collective whole, we a citizens deserve the right to contribute to bringing our country back on its feet. Government forgets we're real live humans here with brains, hearts, hopes, and dreams. All our government is doing right now is putting my grandchildren in debt to COMMUNISTIC countries.

Yeah, why them and not us. The current situation is no more ludicrous than this proposal. This whole "bail-out" mess is just getting started. It will be an endless line of industries asking for cash. WHAT ABOUT US? -THE PEOPLE! This country is SUPPOSED to be, "for the people" not "FROM THE PEOPLE". There are way too many citizens in the same shape as these corporations, to not help us out. Screw the corporations, screw the fat-cats! They caused the last depression. Insert "robber-barons" instead of "corporations" and it may seem a bit more clear. Unbelievable.

If the bailout money was allocated to the consumers, then the consumers would in turn put the money back into the economy by purchasing houses, cars, etc.

well i think a million dollars per adult is a bit much, but i sure wouldn't hurt the government to allocate enough money for each conumer to get out of debt. Why cant the car manufacturers make economically suitable cars, why do we have to have such luxury cars. Just have an order book so that the rich can chose what they want and then have it made. We as middle class people dont need luxery cars to put us in more debt. Even the cars that are out there today are way to expensive. Why dont the CEO's of all companys, be it cars, houses, whatever take a cut or give back money that they get, these are greedy people, our constiution does not say support the big guys, it was made so that all are treated EQUAL. What happened to that. It does not say let the rich get richer and the poor get worse. This is not right and the total government body or the USA and each state should think about this. Thank you

If we all had a million dollars, TAX FREE, We wouldn't all need jobs to survive. The average person can live modestly comfortable off the interest of a million dollars for the rest of their lives and never touch the principal if they didnt want to. remember 2% of a million dollars is twenty grand.

How about renovating all the empty housing, so that no one is without housing. Putting resources into repairing housing, roads, clinics, etc. would stimulate the economy, and create much needed jobs. We need livable wages adjusted for cost of living increases, and Single Payer- Medicare for All Health Care for all Americans NOW. We need a People's banking system in the US that will represent the needs and best interests of the American people. Reverse the current corrupt bankers bailout, and help the working class, and poor people in the US. Focus on retraining and vocational programs for all the people dispalced, unemployed, and underemployed, and hold Congressional hearings for all those responsible for the financial breakdown, and be sure they are all held accountable. Audit the Federal Reserve, and all banking institutions involved in the financial meltdown.

Trickle down doesn't work. It's time to apply trickle up. Put the money in the hands of consumers and let them decide who's worthy of being supported.
(Of course, you won't be surprised to learn that the politicians don't trust the voters but, nevertheless, think the voters ought to trust the politicians!)

ITS THE CEOS AND EXECUTIVES OF THESE COMPANIES THAT ARE TO BLAME FOR THE SINKING OF THEM,THEY STEAL MASSIVE WAGES AND BONUSES WITH EXPENSE ACCOUNTS AS WELL,THEY ARE THE PROBLEM AND TO GIVE THEM MORE MONEY TO USE AND ABUSE AS THEY ALWAYS HAVE IS WRONG AND EXTREMELY CORRUPT,TO GIVE TAX PAYERS MONEY TO CORPORATE GREED IS APPALLING AND A COMPLETE MISUSE OF GOVERNMENT POWER AND THE PEOPLES MONEY.

uhhh. they closed the factories (went to china starting in the 80s and have been going to korea since the 50s), outsourced even data processing jobs to india, etc.... people without jobs can't consume. we need sustainable cities, not miles of housing to be sold to foreigners that retire off our jobs in their countries while we have millions of homeless us citizens.
