Randall L. Treadway of Telford, Tenn., was convicted in June 2009 of animal cruelty after he allowed a harness to become embedded in the body of his basset hound, Annie. Treadway is appealing his conviction, which included an order he pay Annie's vet bills and go on a year of supervised probation. We want to be sure his conviction stands. This time we'd like to see him get jail time as well. This kind of abuse cannot be overlooked and Treadway's punishment must be upheld. He doesn't want to take responsibility for what he did to Annie. We want to make sure he does.
Treadway's new court date is Sept. 2 in the Jonesborough, Tenn., sessions court. He could afford to hire a defense attorney to plead his case but hasn't paid a cent toward Annie's vet bill.
This is just wrong.
We need to make it clear to Randall L. Treadway that the citizens of Tennessee and the rest of the planet believe animal cruelty is a crime. Put him in jail and make him reimburse the nonprofit animal rescue that paid her medical bills. Get this felony on his record.
We want justice. Annie deserves justice.
