Cruelty to Animals Statute in Idaho must be changed to a felony.

Target:
Idaho Lawmakers
Sponsored by:
As one of only six states with a misdemeanor cruelty to animals statute, Idaho's law needs to be changed. Most opposition comes from an unfounded fear that we wish to interfere with "working animals", rodeos, hunting and other animal use lifestyles.  To the contrary, we wish to protect those rights just as  MT, WY, NV, AZ, CO, TX, KS, NE etc. have done but prosecute those who are egregious offenders who torture or repeatedly offend.  Idaho's current law only allows for up to 6 months in jail for a first offense and no more than twelve months in jail for additional offenses with small fines assessed.  (This is a separate issue from dogfighting which was made a felony 02/08.) Please join us in creating justice for animals who cannot speak for themselves.  If you leave a comment, please be courteous as this petition will be hand delivered to lawmakers. ID citizens contact http://www.idahostop.org/ to join an organization which plans to change the law.

If money is all the Goverment is worried about, they should think about all the people that will have to pay fines. Animal abusers have been linked to child abuse and domestic abuse. Some of the most notorious serial killers have made statements saying that killing an animal actually helped them get the courage to kill a human, Once they found out how easy it was to take a life. We have got to take a stand. Animals deserve more than the 5th worse ranked for Animal laws in the United States. I will stand behind animals until the felony law for abusers is passed, no animal deserves to be in pain which is intentionally inflicted by man, woman or child. It is not our place to punish with force. There is nothing an animal could do that is bad enough to hurt them physically or starve them or neglect them.

Being #1 at the top of the animal kingdom does not give mankind the right to torture, repeatedly offend and mistreat animals. We have been given the #1 position to be leaders and caretakers. We can not stand idle and ignore the situation. We are obligated to help and ensure the well-being of animals the same way we ensure the well-being of children, the elderly, physically/psychologically challenged. If we ignore the situation, we encourage these offenders and passively give them the "OK" to display and carry out bad behavior. Please consider this and change the laws that will protect innocent beings that depend on us. We have bred them to help make our lives better, we owe it to them to stand up and make things right!

Animal cruelty should be a felony. There is absolutely no excuse for such blatant abuse towards defenseless animals. We must be the voice for these animals and give them the second chance at life and love that they they deserve.

I am in complete support of this law. I actually feel that animal abusers are in the same category as child molesters and they should be locked up forever. We NEED to clean up this planet in soooo many ways and starting with the abusers of animals is a great place to begin!!

Stiffer laws are needed in every US state to make animal abuse a felony with jail time served. Animals are living breathing beings! Lets change the laws now!!!!!

I think that anyone who abuses animals need to be procusected to the fullest extent of the law. This should be a felony. If people relized that they are going to get more than a slap on the hand maybe the cruelty rate would go down and stop. These poor animals trust us to protect them, they love unconditionaly and to have these evil people out there abuse them is heartbreaking. They deserve a loving peaceful life.

abusing an animal is just as bad as abusing a child or senior and should be punished harshly and not just a tap on the wrist please strengthen these laws and bring these monsters that abuse these helpless animals to justice!!!

Any kind of abuse is terribly wrong but especially animal abuse. We are all here as guardians to love and protect all of Natures Divine creatures. I've seen the cruelty first hand and it breaks my heart to pieces. We can spay/neuter...we don't have to be nor need to be planet Earth the slaughter house. If ya can't handle kindness feel free to take to next shuttle to Mars.
