"Cure Parkinsons" Commemorative U.S. Stamp

Target:
Citizens' Stamp Advisory Commitee, U.S. Postal Service
Sponsored by:
We, the undersigned, encourage the US Postal Service and the members of the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee to develop and release a commemorative postage stamp supporting the search for a cure for Parkinsons, a degenerative disease that afflicts millions of people and their families. A commemorative stamp would help build awareness, and provide support and encouragement for research into more effective treatment -- and eventually a complete cure.

My beloved wife of 46 years has Parkinson's. Is it really better for a fetus to go into the garbage can, than to help save a life? How can that even be a question?

My name is Debra, I'm 54. In June 2006 I was diagonosed with parkinson's disease. Being diagonosed with a chronic progressive illness like Parkinsons's disease (PD) changes your life forever. I've learned that raising awareness about PD helps educate people about the symptoms and also demonstrates that my disease does not define who I am...having said that, I forget Sometimes and I experience moments of anger and sadness during days when I struggle the most, and I really get to "missing me. I'm loosing my enthusiasm, interest and motivation when it comes to doing things. I don't enjoy social activities as much, because of the imbarrasement I feel as the symptoms progressively become worse, but I'm working real hard at coping with these issues.. I don't understand why we don't see enough attention towards awareness on Parkinson's disease. Please say "Yes" to "Cure Parkinson's" commenorative U.S. Stamp.

Doctor-research scientists need funding for many trials. From new drugs to surgical procedures, they can continue to develop treatments and a cure for all who live with Parkinson's. I have for 12 years.

There are too many families and too many people ill with Parkinsons and other chronic illnesses in the US. The chronically ill now total over 100M of 300M Americans. It is not only time to direct funds to research for diseases, eg. Parkinson's; it is time to redesign a health care system that is ineffective in serving the needs of people stricken with illness and their families.

Parkinsons is hard. My grandma has it and sometimes the Parkinsons makes her freeze up so she can't do what she wants to. She can't even eat some of the foods she loves because they make it worse. She does a great job despite having Parkinsons, but having a cure would make it so much easier.

I think this would be a great idea. Some national or world leader with Parkinson's disease could be used?

My name is Deboarah Friend and I have Parkinsons Disease. I am currently a resident at the wonderfully caring Jewish Home in San Francisco, where I initiated a Parkinsons support group. My goal is to create a Parkinsons awareness postage stamp with the U.S. Postal Service. I have created this petition to the Citizens' Stamp Advisory Committee, and hope to collect 10,000 signatures. I encourage you and your friends to join in this urgent effort, to bring an end to this insidious and devastating disease. Thank you for your attention and help. Sincerely, Deborah Friend
