Allow for custom ringtones on the iPhone

It appears to be obvious that the user community wants more freedom to, at a minimum, customize their iPhone. Apple continues to disallow for custom ringtones to be installed on the iPhone. Everytime someone figures out how to place them on the phone, they plug the "hole." Even legitimate companies that have created ways to place ringtones on the phone without resorting to "hacking" methods have been blocked.
The fact that iTunes allows for the purchase of ringtones from a variety of available songs, is nice. It's a great feature (albeit the price seems a bit steep) and the method for creating the ringtone is nifty. But why can't we install our own custom ringtones? Like a recording we made ourselves - something that is not even a song? I don't think that is too much to ask. Perhaps Apple is even working on it right now. Regardless of that possiblity, I'd like to be heard. If Apple is the great company they have proven to be over the last several years, then I am sure they will listen to the consumer needs.
Let's make this happen, sign this petition and let Apple know that you want to use your own ringtones and not be forced to just use what they have to offer!!

We the undersigned, the consumers of Apple products and specifically the iPhone, want Apple to strongly consider changing your current practice of blocking all abilities to place custom ringtones on to the iPhone. This limitation is unacceptable; it gives us a sense that Apple has become greedy and, perhaps, is out of touch with the ringtone culture.
The iPhone as become the least customized phone in the market place. Only customized sounds that are delivered or sold from Apple are available. This is a very limiting factor in an era of individualism. We should be able to utilize our sound library (not necessarily a song) or be able to purchase ringtones from other suppliers in any manner we desire. We desire some freedoms of expression on the iPhone. We want custom ringtones not necessarily just expensive snippets of a song we already have purchased.
Please consider this very seriously. Your attention to the matter is very much appreciated.

I spent a lot of time creating my own ringtones on your software (garageband) and I was looking forward to using them on my new Iphone but I am appalled at the issues and limitations you have imposed on your loyal customers.
