Please help protect grizzles, wolves, and other wild animals

Wildlife Services calls it the "livestock protection" program - but it could be called the "wildlife extermination" program because they spend millions of taxpayer dollars every year to subsidize the killing of bears, mountain lions, bobcats, coyotes and other wild predators.

Please help us stop this wildlife extermination by asking your representative to vote for an amendment that would slash funding for this deadly program.

Wildlife Services, a program of the U.S. Department of Agriculture, kills wildlife simply because private livestock producers ask them to. The animals are caught in traps and snares, shot from helicopters, poisoned with cyanide and other deadly toxins, and pups and cubs may be killed in their dens.

In addition to its cost and cruelty, the Wildlife Service%u2019s livestock protection program harms the environment by removing large numbers of ecologically important predators from the landscape.

And some of their methods, such as the use of poison traps, put people and pets at risk of accidental poisoning. Further, Wildlife Services fails to provide incentives for livestock operators to try to prevent conflicts with carnivores.

Reps. John Campbell of California and Peter DeFazio of Oregon are offering an amendment to this year's federal Agriculture Department spending bill that would cut federal funding for Wildlife Services to kill wild carnivores to benefit private livestock operations.

Please urge your representative to vote for the Campell-Defazio Wildlife Services amendment.

This vote could take place as soon as Tuesday, June 14, so please act now!s hard to believe that millions of taxpayer dollars are spent every year on killing wildlife, especially during our current economic crisis. Please urge your representative to stop this costly and cruel killing of wildlife. ifaw

At a time when Congress is looking for smart ways to cut federal spending, I urge you to support cutting federal funding for USDA's Wildlife Services' "livestock protection" program. Please vote Yes on the Campbell-DeFazio amendment to the Agriculture Appropriations bill that will cut this private interest subsidy by $11 million in FY2012.In 2009, Wildlife Services spent $23 million on programs serving livestock growers and other private agricultural operations, including the livestock protection program. Many of these programs emphasize lethal control, killing animals at taxpayer expense rather than focusing on effective, preventative non-lethal methods for managing wildlife conflicts. Wildlife Services' lethal control methods include shooting, poisoning, trapping, killing young animals in their dens, and even aerial gunning from specially-purchased aircraft.Federal tax dollars should not be spent killing wild predators to benefit private business. I urge you to support cutting federal funding for Wildlife Services' livestock protection program in FY2012 and to vote for the Campbell-DeFazio amendment.

 Dear Friends of the Animals:WHEN?

WHEN all the trees have been cut down, WHEN all the animals have been slaughtered & hunted,  WHEN all the birds are gone & have stopped singing, WHEN all the waters are polluted, WHEN all the whales, sharks  & fish are gone,  WHEN all the air is unsafe to breathe, WHEN all the rivers & oceans are contaminated from oil spills, WHEN the polar bears are gone,  WHEN all the mountains have been drilled & flattened, WHEN all our foodstuffs become unsafe to eat riddled with pesticides, WHEN we have failed to protect although warned of our endangered species, WHEN all the laws to protect animals from abuse & cruelty have failed,  WHEN the elephants, tigers & rhinos are gone; look to our own imminent demise. WHEN?

I encourage all of us to get involved with the law-making process.  Our petitions are valuable & useful, but the muscle of all proposals resides in the law.  Please sign the petition to stop this inhumane and barbaric practice that causes suffering and allows the perpetrators to avoid hands-on responsibility and questions of conscience.  After signing the petition research your State as to what that policy & practice is; and if you don't like what your State is doing, TAKE ACTION!
